Dear President DeGioia,
Your time is up. Students demanded over a year ago to end our business relationship with Nike over their
blatant refusal to facilitate access for the Workers Rights Consortium (WRC) to its supplier factories. This alone is
sufficient reason to believe Nike cannot be trusted, and that we should sever our relationship with the brand. Why
have you and your administration allowed Nike to delay and manipulate you through a process which has clearly
only benefited Nike and the pockets of Georgetown athletic directors and administration. This is an embarrassment
and a shame.
Georgetown was a leader in the founding of the Workers Rights Consortium. Why have you delayed in
unequivocally supporting the WRC - OUR chosen monitor? Your administration has instead unabashedly given into
meetings and negotiations and processes which have included the WRC cooperating with the Fair Labor
Association (FLA ) to which we have no affiliation or obligation. What you should have done is take a stand the day
Nike refused to facilitate access. Your administration has tarnished its legacy of upholding workers rights here at
home and abroad.

Students have met with you, encouraged you to take meaningful action, and cooperated with your staff.
We have done our best to give you time in good faith you would stand on your word. We are weeks away from a
decision being made on Nike, and you have said nothing, refusing even to provide a public statement reaffirming
your warning to Nike last May.

This process has taken months - 14 to be exact. The WRC confirmed today in the final report of this case
that every violation you and your administration were made aware of on May 6th based on testimonies outside of
the factory producing our apparel were confirmed to be occurring to this day. Because of your delay in severing ties
with Nike, workers at the Hansae factory have continued to suffer under severe sweatshop conditions.

We students are giving you an ultimatum today. By close of business tomorrow, Wednesday December 6th at 5 Ptg
, we expect you to:

(1) Refuse to renew our licensing contract with Nike and commit this in writing to the student body
and to Nike by close of business Wednesday, December 7th at 5pm.

Multiple universities including Rutgers have already taken this important step in refusing to renew
not only the license, but the all sports agreement as well.

(2) In order to prevent future conflicts with licenses or brands we do business with, we request
that our university institute additional language which hold all of our licensees, including our
athletic sponsor, accountable to our Code of Conduct and to required independent monitoring by
the WRC and as such immediately renegotiate our all sports agreement with our athletic
sponsor to include timely and expeditious access for the WRC.

University of Washington Seattle President Ana Mari Cauce did this a year ago as can be seen in
the attached document. The Workers Rights Consortium has affirmed universities amending their
sponsorship agreements as can be seen in the attached communication as well.

In the name of our Jesuit values of Cura Personalis and Men and Women for Others, we need to end our universitys
relationship with Nike and its exploitative labor practices
We look forward to hearing from you about our concerns, and thank you in advance for your attention to
these important issues. You have until the end of the day on Wednesday to act on these demands in writing.
Sincerely,
Georgetown Solidarity Committee
