A combination of factors, including the current, deep economic recession and increased general costs,

led to our decision to take the steps to close.

All businesses that depend on discretionary, non-essential spending have been hit hard during this
especially deep recession. Bowling is nothing else if not discretionary spending.

We thank our many long-standing, loyal customers and residents of the Valley for their business and
good wishes.

Valley Bowl was the home of some of the most successful fundraisers in the Valley, including the
longest running bowl-a-thon by Junior Achievement of Southwestern Connecticut, and the co-founding
of the Umbrella Bowl-to-Benefit the Victims of Domestic Violence (which we guesstimate grossed
nearly $1 million over nearly 20 years).

It was also home to countless small fundraisers for schools, scholarships and even for veterans of the
two Iraqi conflicts and victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

This highlights the genuine and deep generosity of our Valley community which we helped.

We will be holding a sale of the small items, such as shoes and bowling balls, on Tuesday and
Wednesday next week.
