Disclaimer

• This presentation is a compilation of data gathered from


multiple resources in the community. It is intended to be a
starting point and by no means is all-inclusive. We have
elected to include those resources that have been helpful
to our patients over the years, and there are other
resources available.
Child and Adolescent Service
Intensity Instrument (CASII)
• Level 0: Basic services available to all (prevention, health maintenance)

• Level I: Recovery maintenance and health management (brief crisis


counseling, med management of chronic medical issues)

• Level II: Outpatient services once/week

• Level III: Intensive outpatient services needing several hours/week, may


be multidisciplinary with care coordination

• Level IV: Intensive Integrated Services w/o 24-hr med monitoring


(wraparound, day treatment, active case management)

• Level V: Non-secure 24-hr medical monitoring (group home, foster care,


residential)

• Level VI: Secure 24-hr medical management (inpatient psych, some


highly-programmed residential facilities)

 Consider financial and cultural issues

 In UT, Medicaid funding = Community Mental Health (AKA

 Be patient – waiting lists are long


 Everyone should have a crisis number accessible (1-800-
SUICIDE, 1-800-273-TALK)

 The ER or crisis center is your friend in an emergency


Outpatient Therapists

 Outpatient Therapists – everyone has a favorite


 Find out if they have sliding scale, fee-for-service, or take
only insurance (and which ones)
 Find out if they speak multiple languages
 Generally start by referring patient to their insurance
company to see who is covered
 Listen to your patients – they may be able to tell you about
organizations
Parenting Classes

 Jordan School District

 Valley Mental Health

 Youth Services

 Utah Youth Village Families First – in home therapy

 Respite Care – The Family Support Center 24 hr Crisis


Nursery
School Help

 Refer patient to local school district school psychologist

 Tutoring (SEPS, Sylvan, etc.)

 Private or online schools – may be helpful for severe


anxiety or kids that haven’t done well in public school

Day Treatment Programs

 AKA “Intensive Outpatient Programs”

 Usually 5 days/week for the whole day, include a school


program; some are ½ day
 Can be step-down from inpatient/residential or step up from
outpatient
 UNI – Kidstar, Teenscope

 PCMC – Wasatch Canyons

 VMH – KIDS, ARTEC


Residential Treatment

 24/7 supervision, usually with MD available for medication


management, some are locked units

 Wasatch Canyons (PCMC)

 PCMC Residential North

 ARTEC (Valley Mental Health)

 Odyssey House and Lifeline – dual diagnosis


Inpatient Treatment

 Mandatory if child is threat to self or others

 Secure (i.e. locked units), short-term stabilization,


medication management, individual/family therapy,
disposition planning

 PCMC – Wasatch Canyons, McKay Dee
