The Summit also reminded me
of what we do at Akron-Canton
TRIO that has caught the
attention of other TRIO groups
in larger places with more
connections. At our meetings,
we care and we give each
person a moment to be cared
about and understood, to be
included as they are able, to
grieve with their grief and to
celebrate their victories. We
have activities and fundraisers,
but not to just make money,
but to reach other transplants
and those affected by
transplantation: the families,
the living donors and the donor
families in our area.
As much as I hate it when I
am having a tough day and
people say this is nothing
compared to having a heart
transplant, it is somewhat
true. It has taken courage and
discipline to accomplish the
goals I have and I needed to
remember that. Each of us
in TRIO; transplants, donors,
family members,caregivers
have all survived traumatic
circumstances, and we under-
stand that struggle like no
one else can.

This Memorial weekend was
my thirteen year transplant
anniversary. I spent the day
remodeling an office so I
could reach out to people
who are broken hearted.
Sitting at the Summit table
listening to how people
stepped out of their comfort
zone and accomplished some
amazing stuff. It gave me
confidence that I could step
out and with some help and
a lot of hard work and
determination I too could be
a leader, not just in TRIO, but
in life as well.

Randy Fogle
“Hi to all my friends in TRIO”
He should be able to walk in
a couple of weeks. Hopes to
get a walking cast on Monday
or in two weeks. Feeling ok
most of the time.
So far he has met one kidney
recipient - a Medical Assistant
at the doctor’s office.
He will keep us informed.
From Sylvia Forbes
We are so sorry to hear that
Sylvia’s husband, Bob fell and
fractured his 12th and 13th
vertebra. He has been in
and out of the hospital and
also suffered a stroke. He
has been transferred back
to Hanover House for a sleep
disorder which they hope to
solve before any kind of
surgery.
In spite of everything that is
going wrong, Sylvia does her
very best and tries to keep a
positive attitude.
Our very best wishes and
prayers for the strength and
courage to carry on in this
latest dilemma.

encouraged me to post it and

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend
stumbled and took a little
fall - she assured everyone
that she was fine (they
offered to call paramedics).
She said she had just tripped
over a brick because of her
new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and
got her a new plate of food.
While she appeared a bit
shaken up, Ingrid went about
enjoying herself the rest of
the evening.
Ingrid’s husband called later
telling everyone that his wife
had been taken to the hospital
(- at 6:00pm Ingrid passed
away.) She had suffered a
stroke at the BBQ. Had they
known how to identify the
signs of a stroke, perhaps
Ingrid would be with us
today. Some don’t die. they
end up in a helpless, hopeless
condition instead.
It only takes a minute to read
this..
A neurologist says that if he
can get to a stroke victim
within 3 hours he can totally
reverse the effects of a stroke..
totally. He said the trick was
getting a stroke recognized,
diagnosed and then getting
the patient medically cared
for within 3 hours, which is
tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to
remember the “3” steps, STR.
Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a
stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately, the lack of
awareness spells disaster. The
stroke victim may suffer brain
damage when people nearby
fail to recognize the symptoms
of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander
can recognize a stroke by asking
three wimple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T* Ask the person to TALK and
SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE
(Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today.)
R* Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH
ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with
ANY ONE of these tasks,
call emergency number
immediately and describe the
symptoms to the dispatcher.

Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another sign of a stroke
is this: Ask the person to
‘stick’ out his tongue. If the
tongue is ‘crooked’, if it
goes to one side or the other,
that is also an indication of a
stroke.

at Malone University, is offering

of stinging pests, such as
hornets, wasps and yellow
jackets.
Goff serves as a collector for
a pair of pharmaceutical
companies. The venom collected
is used to help immunize
patients who, without the
allergy shot, would suffer
severe allergic reactions to
stinging insects.
