HOW TO CASH
IN ON THE
TWITTER
REVOLUTION
The latest Internet craze is a service called Twitter. Twitter is completely revolutionizing
the Internet. For the purpose of this e Book, I am going to assume that you are not an
Internet geek. Anyone with the ability to use e mail will be able to easily use and apply
this information.
The focus of this e Book will be to teach you a new way of building a following of
people that are interested in you, your brand, and your information. Once you have a
following, there are unlimited ways that you can cash in. Twitter is a simple way to
begin building a following that can be a part of the foundation of a profitable Internet
I get into the details of making money from your web traffic (monetization). Believe me,
once you have traffic to your website or blog you can make a very good income from it.
What Is Twitter?
Twitter is known as a micro blog. A blog is nothing more than an online journal. You
typical blog will have an entry page which shows the most current article. It will also
contain an archive of past articles. So, a blog is really nothing more than an online
A micro blog is a small blog. Nothing complicated about that. Twitter is extremely
unique, however, since you can only use a maximum of 140 characters on each post (only
about two to three sentences). As a result of the short nature of the entries, people can
easily (and do) follow hundreds of Twitter bloggers. Twitter is an online service that
allows you to broadcast short messages to your friends or "followers." It also lets you
choose which Twitter users you want to follow so you can read their messages in one
place.
That is part of the challenge of being a good Twitter user. Every word counts, so you
have to be very clever about how you use your 140 characters.

The best way to get followers is to start following others. By following other users on
Twitter, you will learn first hand how the process works. The other part of following is
that many of those that you decide to follow, will follow you in return. When you follow
someone new, they will receive a message informing them that your are following them.
As a result, many will visit your Twitter profile and begin following you right away.
Following someone on Twitter simply means that every time they make a new post (a
Tweet), you will be able to read it in real time on your own Twitter account. The number
of followers a person has is visible to everyone. This statistic is kind of a power symbol
on Twitter. Those with the most followers are considered to have the greatest influence
in the Twitter World. It is no problem to follow several hundred people, since unlike e
mail, you don’t have to respond (or even read) every post that someone makes. Twitter
can become a two-way conversation, but does not have to be. That is the flexibility about
Twitter that makes it fun. If you see something of interest you can read it or respond. If
It is kind of understood among Twitter users that each person will post on a schedule that
they decide. Some people I follow make 100 posts in a day, although most only post
once or twice a day. I average about 20 to 30 posts per day myself. My Tweets are
usually about news stories that I find interesting and are also links back to my own
website, blog, and podcast. There are no rules on this. You can make 10 posts one day
and none the next. You can even take a vacation from Twitter if you don’t want to Tweet
A person becomes your friend when you are following them and they are following you.
If there is not a mutual following, they are not officially a Twitter friend. So, with that in
mind, take a look at a list of some of the top Twitter rankings (below). It is interesting to
see people from just about every walk of life on Twitter. You will find celebrities in the
top 100 people and also quite a few people that you may never have heard of. This
proves my point, that anyone can build a following with this kind of technology, even

Searching Twitter can be very useful. First, you may be interested in a particular topic
and would like to read what people are Tweeting about it. Secondly, doing a Twitter
search is a very useful way of finding people to follow. Let’s say that you are an antique
car enthusiast. You can do a search for ‘1955 Thunderbird’ and see who has been
Tweeting about it. These could be ideal people for you to follow since you have a
Another method to quickly begin following a lot of people (which will in turn get them to
follow you), is to find one person you want to follow and then follow some of their
followers. This is very easy to do. First, do a search for a topic that is of interest to you.
individuals that made the posts. You will see a partial list of their followers on the right
column of their personal profile page. Click on this and you will see the entire list. All
you have to do is to click on “follow” next to any person on their list and you will be
As a brand new Twitter user, I would suggest finding at least 50 to 100 people to follow
right away. This is sort of priming the pump to get your profile raised on Twitter.
Remember, many of the people that you follow will follow you in return. This is a great
way to start your following and meet some new people. Of course, you can also find
people one at a time and not use other people’s lists of followers. This will take more
time, but allows you to be a little more targeted in who you end up following. You can
always “unfollow” someone with the click of a button, so don’t end up with analysis
You can send a public message to another user on Twitter by typing @ in front of their
username. This is a message you intend for them to read, but can also be read by
everyone else following you and them. You can send a private message (known as a
direct message), to anyone that is following you. Send a direct message by typing d in
front of their username. TweetDeck is a really easy way to manage your Twitter account
TweetDeck
http://www.tweetdeck.com is a program you can download for free. Once you install
TweetDeck, you will be able to manage all of your Twitter activities (including direct
messages and replies) from an easy to use desktop application. What I especially like
about TweetDeck is how easy it is to read the posts of those I am following. The posts
stream across your screen in real time. Hard to explain, but you will see once you
Another interesting thing that I really like about TweetDeck is the ability to do searches.
You can set up a column and follow a word or a phrase in real time. Each time someone
uses that word or phrase anywhere on Twitter, you will see the post. There are a lot of
companies that use this feature to track what people are saying about them on Twitter.
Do You Want To Know What Topics Are Hot Right Now On Twitter?
One of the most interesting Twitter sites is called TwitScoop. TwitScoop follows all of
the conversations on Twitter and provides a list of the most popular topics. TwitScoop is
a great tool to see what the latest “buzz” is. If you want to be the first to know what is
happening keep an eye on TwitScoop. Earthquakes, plane crashes, and other major news
stories will appear on TwitScoop before CNN or other news outlets will even know about
them. http://www.twitscoop.com/

Once you have hundreds or even thousands following you on Twitter, you can easily
promote your Squidoo pages, website, blog, and other Internet properties to your
