WIRING STANDARDS AND CODES

The electrical codes are meant to

protect people from hidden hazards
that can be exposed wiring or other
work that was not completed
properly.
THE FUNCTIONS OF THE CODES

Is to protect people and their

property from the dangers arising
from the use of electricity.
¿ WHY STANDARDS?

Standards can take many

forms. They may be
specified by a single
supplier, or may be
industry standards that
support multiple vendors.
BEST BEST PRACTICES AND
STANDARDS

• The standards ensure that

products and services fulfill
its purpose.
• best practices are job
functions that help users
perform tasks while.
EVOLUTION OF THE STANDARD
WIRING

At first, the standards were

dominated by computer
manufacturers, including
makers of mainframes
(Mainframe) and
microcomputers.
INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS,
NATIONAL AND LOCAL
GLOBAL STANDARDIZATION
ORGANIZATIONS

• International Organization for

Standardization (ISO) / IEC
is an international organization
composed of national
standardization organizations from
more than 140 countries.
IEC

International Electrotechnical
Committee (IEC) is the global
organization that prepares and
publishes international standards for
all electrical technology, electronics
and those related.

NATIONAL STANDARDS OF
DELEGATIONS

The American National Standardization Institute (ANSI)

is a private non-profit organization that administers
and coordinates the evaluation system of voluntary
standardization and conformity of the United States.
INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND
ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING (IEEE)

The IEEE is a technical professional

association, non-profit that has more than
377,000 members in 150 countries. Founded
in 1884, the organization includes engineers,
scientists and students.

TIA / EIA

The Electronic Industries Association (EIA, Electronic

Industries Alliance) and the Association of
Telecommunications Industry (TIA, Telecommunications
Industry Association) are trade associations that develop
and publish a set of standards boards covering the
structured cabling for voice and data for LAN.
OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

• ECA
The Association of Components, Electronic
Assemblies and Materials.
• CEA
The Association of Consumer Electronics.
• GEIA
Government Association of Electronics and
Information.
¿ WHAT MUST TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE
TELECOMMUNICATIONS CABLE INSTALLERS ON
ELECTRICITY ?

A comprehensive
electrical code
regulations regarding
telecommunications.
BUILDING CODES AND
ENFORCEMENT OF CODES

Require a permit to ensure

that work is done correctly.
STATE CODES

Building codes, fire codes and

electrical codes are examples. At first,
like job security, these were local
issues.
LOCAL CODES

Local codes always take

precedence over state codes,
which in turn take
precedence over national
codes.
