MEMORANDUM

TO: Grade 9 Song Director Applicant


FROM: Liz Hansen, Coordinator, Special Events
RE: Requirements for Applying and Important Dates to Remember

Important Facts:

1) Although you may apply, you cannnot be on academic or conduct probation at any
time during the second semester to perform as a Song Director. Vice-principal
clearance is needed before your name is listed on the election ballot.

2) You must pass a musical competency test.

3) Song Directors are required to attend meetings throughout the school year, including the
Song Directors’ and Alternates’ workshop on Friday, January 7, 2011 at 3:15 p.m. in
the Performing Arts Choral Room.

4) Song Directors are responsible for:


a. researching information about their song for later presentation to the class;
b. preparing lesson plans and conducting a part of a Song Contest Ka Na`i Pono;
c. working with the alternate song director and selecting section leaders and delegating
work accordingly;
d. developing seating charts for rehearsal and performing areas; and
e. preparing rooms for rehearsals.

Important Dates:

1) August 23-31 - Applications for Song Director available for pick-up. Completed
applications must be received in the Special Events Office, Performing Arts Bldg., Room
#309 by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010.

2) September 1 & 2 – Mr. Hailama Farden reviews applicants for academic and conduct
standing.

3) September 7, 8 and 9 – Applicants MANDATORY workshop with Mr. Les Ceballos,


3:10-3:30 p.m., in the Performing Arts Choral Room.

4) September 16 – 11:15 a.m. candidates on the ballot meet in the Chapel


11:25 a.m. Song Director election – Chapel

5) September 17 – Daily Bulletin and/or P.A. announcement of elected song director and
alternate.
