Introduction
 Rolex is a Swiss manufacturer of high-quality,
luxury wristwatches.

 It was founded by Hans Wilsdrof in 1905.

Its headquarters are at Geneva, Switzerland.

These watches are popularly known as status symbols.

“Business Week“ magazine ranks Rolex #71 on its 2007


annual list.

 It produces about 2,000 watches per day, generating


revenues of around US$3 billion.
Rolex Evolution
• 1905 - Hans Wilsdorf established London firm that specialized in
watch distribution.

• 1908 - Wilsdorf opened new brand name: Rolex.

• 1910 - Rolex started to give official chronometer certification in


Switzerland.

• 1914 - The Kew Observatory in Great Britain awarded to Rolex


wristwatch a CLASS A precision certificate.

• 1926 - Rolex developed and patented the Oyster: first air, dust and
waterproof model of watch.

• 1945 - Oyster Date model was invented. This was a first watch
that automatically display a date.

• 1953 - Rolex had created watch for diving: - the Submariner


model.

• 1955 - Oyster GMT Master was designed to make possible to


check time in different time zones.

• 1967 - Oyster Sea-Dweller was invented - waterproof in depth of


610m/2001 ft.

• 2004 - Submariner model celebrated its 50th Anniversary with


special commemorative model which has green bezel and unique
black dial.

• The first wristwatch with an automatically changing day and


date on the dial (Rolex Day-Date).

• The first wristwatch case waterproof to 100 m (330 ft) (Rolex


Oyster Perpetual Submariner, 1953).

•The first wristwatch to show two time zones at once (Rolex GMT
Master, 1954).

• The first watchmaker to earn chronometer certification for a


wristwatch.
