A fire Sunday along the Chattaway
Lake Forest Service Road, about 27km
2663 Granite Ave. (next to Fountain Tire) northwest of Merritt grew to 8 hectares in
378-4531 size. Through the afternoon, it was on
“the aggressive end of a rank three fire”.
A column of smoke was visible from the
Coquihalla Highway & nearby commu-
nities. Ground crews and aircraft re-
sponded: 4 air tankers, 6 people & 1
helicopter on scene, and heavy equip-
ment deployed.
Allie Lake wildfire
The Allie Lake wildfire, 55km north-
west of Kamloops, grew to 2,700 hectares,
and is burning out of control. Crews have
been working around the clock since
Wednesday, when it was reported, and
air support has assisted with suppression
since the same afternoon.
On Saturday, TNRD issued evacuation
orders for 14 homes in Electoral Areas
“E” (Bonaparte Plateau) and“J” (Copper
Desert Country); and an evacuation alert
for 51 others.
As well, an area restriction for Crown
land in the vicinity of the Allie Lake wild-
fire came into effect to protect public
safety and ensure the safety of firefight-
ing personnel who continue with fire
suppression activities. It will remain in
place until noon on Oct. 31, or when the
order is rescinded.
Sunday, 130 personnel (including a BC Children’s Hospital, this new-to-Mer-
ritt event takes place Sat., June 3, at Voght
night shift), 11 helicopters and 10 pieces of
heavy equipment were assigned to the fire.Park. Registration 8am, run starts 9am.
