NEWS 12, NEWSDAY, AND HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY’S


GUBERNATORIAL DEBATE HEATS UP

News 12’s Doug Geed and Brian Conybeare, along with Newsday’s Joye Brown,
Set to Moderate Live, 90-Minute Event on Monday, October 18 At 7:00 PM

Woodbury, NY, October 13, 2010 -- News 12 Networks, Newsday, and Hofstra University today
announced additional details of the first New York State Gubernatorial debate, which will include all
seven candidates in the race. News 12 Long Island’s Doug Geed, Newsday’s Joye Brown, and News 12
Westchester/Hudson Valley’s Brian Conybeare are on board to moderate the event on Monday, October
18 at 7:00 p.m.

On television the debate will be telecast live throughout New York State on cable-exclusive channels:
News 12 Long Island, News 12 Westchester, News 12 Hudson Valley, News 12 The Bronx, News 12
Brooklyn, Time Warner Cable’s NY1, NY1 Noticias (with Spanish interpretation) and YNN. The
debate is being made available to National Public Radio stations throughout New York State.

Mr. Geed, who has been an anchor/reporter at News 12 Long Island for more than 20 years, will act as
host and moderator for the debate. Joye Brown, who has been with Newsday for 27 years, the past seven
as a columnist, will ask the candidates questions from the stage, while Mr. Conybeare, a 15-year veteran
of News 12 Westchester’s anchor desk, will introduce questions from the audience, as well as taped
questions from residents in other parts of New York State.

The 90-minute debate will air without commercial interruptions and will include a series of questions,
asked of all seven candidates, plus closing statements. All seven candidates will be given the
opportunity to answer the same questions with equal and specified time. Some questions will allow for
a brief rebuttal among all the candidates after each has had a chance to answer.

The debate is being held in front of a live audience of invited guests that includes community members,
local leaders and Hofstra students. Through Hofstra University, 100 tickets are also being made
available to the general public. Those interested in tickets to the event can enter a random drawing by
registering at www.hofstra.edu/2010debate, before Friday, October 15, at 9:00 a.m. Winners will be
notified directly.

The seven candidates who have agreed to attend are:


 Charles Barron (Freedom Party)
 Andrew Cuomo (Democratic/Independence/and Working Families
Parties)
 Kristin Davis (Anti-Prohibition Party)
 Howie Hawkins (Green Party)
 Jimmy McMillan (Rent is 2 Damn High Party)
 Carl Paladino (Republican/Conservative/Taxpayers Parties)
 Warren Redlich (Libertarian Party)

In addition to airing on cable, the event will be streamed live on www.news12.com, www.newsday.com,
www.ny1.com, and www.ny1noticias.com, making the debate available to anyone with Internet access.
It will also be available for on-demand viewing, shortly following the debate on News 12 Interactive,
channel 612 on Cablevision’s iO TV, and on-line at News12.com and Newsday.com. News 12 also has
a Facebook page dedicated to the debate, where viewers are encouraged to comment in real time their
impressions during the event; www.facebook.com/raceforgovernor.

A pool feed of the live debate will be available to other media outlets on Ku satellite and on fiber at
“The Switch” in NYC. Stations wishing to access the feed can contact Hofstra University Media
