CICA International Book Awards 2008


CICA Book Awards are announced at the four yearly UIA Congress. On June 30 this
year the 2008 were made as follows:-

The jury of the CICA Book Awards unanimously agreed to give the
Bruno Zevi Book Award, 2008
to the following title:

Murray Fraser with Joe Kerr,


Architecture and the ‘Special Relationship’: The American Influence on Post-War British
Architecture,
Routledge, London and New York, 2007

CITATION:
This book on the special relationship between the US and Britain provides a wide ranging
insight into a complex period of influences, educational opportunities and exchanges of
people and ideas after 1945 but sets the scene initially by examining the roots of this
relationship in the late 19th century. The critical approach of the authors draws upon Post -
Colonial theory and seeks, in this well researched, scholarly and original work, to examine
the many strands in the Anglo=American relationship.

The Pierre Vago Journalism Award 2008 has been awarded to:
Kazi K Ashraf, Sunil Khilnani, Prem Chandavarkar, et al, for critical essays in the special
edition of Architectural Design ‘Made in India’ Vol.77, No 6, 2007, Wiley, London
An article in a special issue of the DOCOMOMO International Journal was also
commended: Essay by Eduardo Luis Rodriguez, “The Sinuous Path of the Modern
Movement in the Caribbean Islands”, ‘ The Modern Movement in the Caribbean Islands’,
DOCOMOMO International Journal No.33, Paris, September 2005 pp.5-8

The CICA Julius Posener Award 2008

This year’s awards were announced at the UIA Congress, Turin, Italy,
on June 30, 2008 by CICA President Prof Joseph Rykwert. The next series of CICA
Awards are set for the UIA Congress in 2012.
