7. How their organization meets your
organization's research or manufacturing interests
Our laboratory would like me to receive training in
micromachining technology, e.g., wet/dry silicon etching
and silicon to silicon fusion bonding. I hope that your
laboratory, one of the leaders in this field of research,
can provide me with the opportunity to learn about
sensor manufacturing technology.
We have heard that your group has much experience in
research involving the PPS of the mercury manometer.
ABC is internationally renowned for its precision in
measurement standards. Your division, the Mechanical
and Optical Metrology Division, is also known as one of
the best laboratories in this field.
8. Proposed itinerary during training
I wish to learn about sensor manufacturing technology at
your laboratory for three months this year, preferably
during March through June. Pressure sensors and
related technology are what we are most concerned with.
A six month period as a guest worker would probably be
the most appropriate time frame. If my application is
accepted, I can start no earlier than October and end no
later than May 1992.
If possible, I would prefer to begin no earlier than
November 1, 1991. Besides the above-mentioned
subjects, I hope that I will be able to spend some time
taking assignments directly from you. Please consider
my request and inform me of your decision as soon as
possible.
8. Proposed itinerary during training
(cont)
I have already been allotted half a year to conduct research work at
another institution. All related expenses would be covered by my
institute, the Center for Measurement Standards.
I have several questions about this ACT program:
1. Are you going to cover all subjects, including metallocene, zeolite,
solid acids, Ziegler/Natta, oxygenate and chiral organic chemistry, in
your ACT program? How long have you operated an active ACT
Program?
2. You stated that each member can choose four CAP study reports?
How many CAP studies will you publish annually? Do you have the
current list of published CAP studies?
3. When and where will the annual seminar be held? Do you have a
copy of the previous year's program for the annual program you
have hosted?
I hope you will provide us with a more detailed introduction to your
ACT Program before we reach a final decision.

9. Financial arrangements
The proposed format is that of a self-
supported guest worker at your laboratory.
All of the expenses incurred during my
stay would be covered by my organization.
10. How the training course can
benefit your organization
I also agree that the introduction of Molecular
Simulation at UCL would provide a more
thorough understanding of polymer morphology-
structure property relationship and the directions
for research activity.
Your laboratory, one of the leaders in this field of
research, could provide me with a marvelous
opportunity to learn about sensor manufacturing.
11. Reference(s)
By the way, I have an aunt living in a nearby
Cupertino. Her name is Dr. Lin Mei Mei and she
can be directly contacted at (408)1234567 (tel)
or (408)2345678 (fax). She can provide further
clarification, if necessary.
I would greatly appreciate your comments
regarding this proposal. Thanks for your
assistance. I look forward to our future
cooperation.
Attached please find my personal resume.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
