COLLOCATION

Andri Purwanto, S.S., M.Hum.

WHAT IS COLLOCATION
 Collocation is concerned with the way words
occur together, often in unpredictable ways.
 Collocation is the way words combine in a
language to produce natural-sounding speech
and writing.
For example, in English you say strong wind but
heavy rain. It would not be normal to say *heavy
wind or *strong rain.
Other examples:
In English we say the real thing but the genuine
article. It would be unusual to say *the genuine
thing or *the real article.
