I’ll Never Be the Same

My Daddy Said So…


“Owin’ is better than stickin’,”
my dad would offer regardlessly.

Some say, “Stick it where the sun don’t shine;”


and be callously unresponsive,
yes and hurtfully inattentive.

That’s selfishness disguised as freedom;


lack of effort is not sovereignty,
not-doing is not leaving undone.

Better said, “I owe you one, my friend;”


and be graciously engagible,
yes and helpfully accessible.

Relationships have expectations;


joyousness requires submission,
being-with involves intimacy.

Dare to de-cloak and ask acceptance;


putting-up-with takes reassurance,
taking-care-of puts us at great risk,

Commit with your whole self and say,


“I want to see with all my heart.”
