Proposition 84: State Parks Funding

The State awarded 62 grants totaling $184 million through Round One of
Proposition 84 funding. More than 475 applications were received requesting
over $1.6 billion, far exceeding the money available. We were lucky enough to
receive 2 grants!

• Craftsman Park Development (851 Orange Avenue): $722,465

• Orizaba Park Community Center: $2,200,000

The Redevelopment Agency purchased both sites, relocated any tenants,

cleared and grubbed land, and transferred the property to the City where we
“land bank” the property until we receive the funding for construction. Attached is
the list of cities and projects that received funding throughout the State of
California.

“Splendor” Blues

The huge Carnival Cruise Ship, “Splendor” that experienced the fire in its engine
room originated from the Cruise line here in Long Beach. The ship as been
towed into San Diego by area tugboats. While there was never a fear for life and
safety, it was certainly a huge inconvenience. I understand Carnival is doing all
that it can to compensate the passengers for this troubling cruise experience to
maintain customer loyalty.

More Great Airport News

We just learned that the Long Beach Airport Terminal Renovation was featured
by the World Interior Design Network. Our airport truly will be on the cutting edge
of terminal design resulting in increased comfort and efficiency for our travelers.
By the way, Mario tells me that the parking garage is months ahead of schedule
and moving “better” than clockwork. We also hope to bring the construction bids
for the terminal renovation to the City Council sometime in December.

Long Beach in the News: Arts and Entertainment Network

Attached is a flyer about a Town Hall Meeting that will be hosted next Thursday
at CSULB. Long Beach TV will be involved in an Emmy Award-Winning Series
called “Intervention” about dealing with addictions.

City of Long Beach awarded $886,000 grant for energy management

system

The City of Long Beach was successfully awarded $886,990 by SCE this week
for a grant to track municipal energy usage through the set up of a utility
manager software system. The Office of Sustainability applied for the grant,
which will fund a software system that will track real time energy usage citywide
and will result in identifying future energy efficiency and greenhouse gas
reduction projects. Utilizing this software system will help the City achieve
energy goals listed in the Sustainable City Action Plan.

Lori Ann Farrell

As everyone knows by now, Lori Ann Farrell will be leaving us shortly to become
the Finance Director for the City of Huntington Beach. Lori Ann was recruited
heavily by this city during the past month. This obviously was a very difficult
decision for her. Lori Ann has been with us since 2006, first as our Controller
and was later appointed to Finance Director in 2007. Lori Ann leaves behind her
a wonderful Finance Department with many fine managers who are doing an
excellent job of keeping our fiscal house in order. While we will certainly miss
Lori Ann and her leadership capabilities, she leaves us in good hands with a
great team. Her last day will be sometime in mid-December.
