Good afternoon friends and children from all over the world!

As we celebrate The United Nations Month we realized that this

organization gives focus to education through UNESCO. Education should be
a means to empower children and adults alike to become active participants
in the transformation of their societies. Learning should also focus on the
values, attitudes and behaviors which enable individuals to learn to live
together in a world characterized by diversity and pluralism.

In 1960, UNESCO adopted the Convention against Discrimination in

Education, which acknowledged the crucial role of education in ensuring
equality of opportunity for members of all racial, national or ethnic groups.
The Convention qualified it as « Any distinction, exclusion, limitation or
preference based on race, color, sex, language, religion or political or other
opinion, national or social origin, economic condition or birth. The
Convention called on States to adopt immediate measures in favor of
equality in education and, what is more, it linked the concept of Education
directly to Human Rights.

Within this perspective, this UNESCO Program wishes to reinforce its

educative actions to develop new approaches to education in order to fight
against all forms of discrimination.

 Education to non-violence
An educational teaching kit about non-violence is being developed for
use by teachers and trainers. It contains the following publications:

- « The Art of living in Peace»

- « Best practices for non-violent conflict resolution at school»
- « Non-violence in Education »

 Tolerance Education
A set of educational materials entitled « Tolerance : the threshold of
peace » was published in 1997 by UNESCO. It is directed to teacher
educators, elementary and secondary schools. A learning process that
places tolerance in the framework of an education for peace, human
rights and democracy is provided through many themes for reflection
and examples of
activities.

A part of the celebration today is the participation of the Victorious

Children Learning Academy in the annual United Nations Month. The
academy founded this year by Galleno couple caters for the development of
early childhood education.

2
Early childhood generally encompasses the first eight years in the life of
an individual. The education given during these years of a child's life plays a
very important role and helps in proper development of children. Early
childhood education can be fundamentally termed as "Learning through
play". Recent research have shown that early eight years in any children life
are crucial time because during this phase their brain develops and much of
its 'wiring' is laid down. The education experiences and relationships a child
has along with nutrition can actually affect child mental growth enormously.
While good early childhood education helps the brain to develop in healthy
ways, improper education or study without play on other hand may affect
brain development in different manner. So the experiences and the learning
of a child in early years can support them in their entire life.

Recent studies of early childhood education have even shown some

remarkable success. It resulting effects on child motivation and learning
power last for a long time. Today where education has become very
important role to play in a society, it is not right to postpone investing in
children education until they become adults, nor wait till they reach school
age. In fact early childhood is a vital phase of life in terms of a child's
intellectual, emotional and social development. Besides this, the most
important point to know is that the growth of mental abilities is at an
astounding rate and high proportion of learning takes place during this
period.

It is very important for every parent to understand that a child spends

first eight years in realization of his or her own identity. These are very
crucial years when children gain a sense of self and learn to associate
themselves with the people around them. They develop an understanding
and behavior to a certain extent. For this reason it is suggested that early
childhood education during these years should be more focused on teaching
children about the world around them through play and establish the links.
Moreover, many child development experts also agree that play is very
important in the learning and emotional development of children. A play can
be multi-facet and often helps in educating different skills in children. In
addition to this, education through play also helps them learn social skills,
and develop values and ethics.

Certainly, today it won't be wrong to say that early childhood education is

the key element that helps in building a god foundation for child's
educational success. Every child learns habit and form patterns that are not
easily changed in later years. If parents and educators can develop
productive early education patterns for the children in their charge, those
children will be on their way to achieving great educational success. The lack
of parental interaction during early childhood can negatively impact a child's

3
development. Ultimately it is the equal responsibility of the parents and
tutors to assure the children have a good early childhood education that can
further help them develop their personalities.

When children reach the age of three, they essentially embark upon a
very crucial part of their lives. They meet people and participate in activities
that will have a profound effect on them, thereby making the need for
preschool development even more important.

Given the sensitive and curious nature of children at such a tender age,
providing proper preschool development I would like to highlight some of the
benefits of this approach in order to emphasize its importance to parents.
Any parents debating the benefits of sending their child to preschool will also
find this article very useful.

1. Encouragement to Speak Your Mind

One key indicator of good child development and growth is the child's ability
to communicate and speak his/her mind. Many children are shy to speak at
first. Parents and teachers should play a leading role and take the first step
in getting the child to open up. This requires that the child be completely
comfortable with the surrounding and the people in it. Aside from home,
Montessori schools are an ideal place for a child to develop and improve
their communication.

2. Emphasis on Interaction

A child learns invaluable lessons at home. It is arguably the best education

institution early on. However its potential is limited. Children are always
comfortable at home. They need to be exposed to the outside world and be
given ample opportunities to communicate and interact with people who are
not part of the household. Preschool development revolves around this
school of thought.

3. Learning the Importance of Teamwork

Children are paired in teams and groups where they learn to work together
and understand the importance of teamwork. This serves as a means to
improve their communication and interaction with their peers as well as their
teachers.

4. Acquiring Good Learning Habits

4
An integral part of good preschool development is to create a desire in
children to learn. In order to do so, preschools implement numerous
programs designed to make learning more appealing and to motivate
children to better themselves as students and human beings. Children can
get bored very easily so the learning activities must be fun and entertaining.

5. Significance of a Healthy Body

A healthy body makes for a healthy mind. This is particularly true for
children. Preschool development doesn't entail restricting children only to
indoor learning activities. A significant emphasis is given to outdoor activities
that are bundled nicely with indoor tasks in order to give children the perfect
balance of learning and fun.

These above mentioned reasons are more than plenty to convince any
parent about the importance of preschool development for their child. And I
hope that we continue to see the growth of your children through Victorious
Children Learning Center.

Thank you very much and happy United Nations Day to everyone.
