About True Christian Living and Common Temptations(compiled and formatted by Bill Stevenson)
Note:You don’t need to the three parts in order. The third part has all of the epistle in a logical format  so you might want to split the screen while doing the first two parts.
Part 1: Kinds of Temptations
After my wife and I had been at Koinonia Church for 6 months, the pastor finished Acts onWednesday nights. For two Wednesday nights, the head elder had preached about the Epistle of James. Then I suddenly realized a fourth possible theme of the Bible-- dealing with temptations. What is one of the main reasons for many of the commandments in the Bible, even the ones in Exodus and Leviticus?Wasn’t the Apostle Paul a good example of resisting temptations and teaching how to do such?
Now be ready for more question answering and a matching exercise. I guarantee you will be blessed if  you do. Better than if I “lecture” you.
Genesis 3:6And when the woman saw that the tree wasgood for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat,and gave also to her husband with her;and he did eat.1 John 2:15-17Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man or woman loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him or her.For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,is not of The Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he or she who does the will of Godabides for ever.
What are the three categories of sin? What has been or is the worse kind of temptations for you? What are the top 3 temptations for you now?
Verse 2 says that we should be joyful when we fall into various trials! Why? Look at the next two verses before answering.
I also was suddenly surprised to realize that the whole chapter of James 1 was about temptation. counted 21 different kinds!! The first one is generic, but the rest are quite specific. Now please get you Bible and open it to James 1.
Matching exercise: For each verse put the number of the appropriate kind of temptation after the versenumber.

Part 3-- the Lockman Foundation’s NASB logically formatted by Bill Stevenson with Holy Spirit helpChapter 1
***What is the main subject or purpose of this chapter? (The key word is in the third and fourth verses.) Explain the exhortations in this chapter. And also state what are the temptations mentioned or implied in thischapter.
1 James, a bond-servant of God and of The Lord Jesus Christ,to the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings.2 Consider it all joy, my brothers {and sisters}, when you encounter various trials,3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.4 And let endurance have {its} perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him {or her} ask of God,Who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him {or her}.6 But he {or she} must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.7 For that man {or woman} ought not to expectthat he {or she} will receive anything from The Lord,8 {being} a double-minded man {or woman},unstable in all his {or her} ways.9 But the brother {or sister} of humble circumstances is to glory in his {or her} high position;10 and the rich man {or woman} in his {or her} humiliation, because like flowering grass he {or she} will pass away.11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass;and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed;so too the rich man {or woman} in the midst of his {or her} pursuits will fade away.
