AN APPEAL LETTER TO ALL NOBEL PEACE LAUREATES

Henrik Ibsens gate 51

NO-0255 Oslo
Norway
Date: December 10, 2010

First of all, we have no word to express our appreciation for the kind remarks of the Nobel Peace
Laureates, we quote, “In Burma’s hour of need, we must stand with those who stand for democracy
and justice. Daw Suu Kyi’s release is just the beginning of a long process; Burma’s immediate
future is still uncertain. The elections earlier this month cannot be described as free or fair, and we
must all continue to insist on the release of Burma’s 2203 political prisoners. Indeed, the number of
‘prisoners of conscience’ in the country – among them human rights defenders, journalists, labour
activists and Buddhist monks and nuns – has more than doubled over the past few years. They are
languishing in Burma’s prisons and labour camps, and many are suffering from ill-treatment and
torture. The world, and in particular Burma’s ASEAN neighbours, must speak louder for their
release. When I think back to the situation in South Africa, I remember that there were many times
when it felt like we would never see freedom in our country, when those who oppressed us seemed
invincible. As I always say though, this is a moral universe, injustice and oppression will lose out in
the end. Led by a lady of great moral courage, the people of Burma are doing their utmost to hasten
that day. We must do all we can to support them.” The bishop Desmond Tutu has said it all.

We applaud Ms. Williams, who had made a call to Daw Suu on behalf of all her Nobel sisters.
Among other things, the two women spoke about the continued use of landmines in Burma.
Williams also congratulated Suu Kyi on her release from house arrest, and pledged her support and
that of her sister Laureates to keep up the work to free Burma’s other 2100 political prisoners.

We also are very thankful for the President Obama’s kind remarks to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
Burma however is at the labyrinth and maze due to the infamous results of the junta’s “sham
elections” nowadays.

Than Shwe junta’s democracy via the “sham election” is just a plain tall story to the world as we all
know. The release of Daw Aung Suu Kyi was a hoax to hoodwink the world as an attempt to issue
its election results quietly announcing the winning members of USDP that is the people’s most
hated party. Honestly, we are quite certain that Than Shwe himself has no desire whatsoever even to
say “hi” to Daw Suu. However, the paradigm shift of junta politics will picture itself without Than
Shwe sooner rather than later. Even so, his worry is how she would play in it. Also, “elite
fragmentation” eliminating the prominent leaders to stop their effective role in public is in the
military text book taught by West Point for quite sometime. The history time and time again had
proven it in the past tragedies like Gandhi, Mrtin Luther King, Bhuto and many.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi exposes her life in danger wandering among the public like 2003’s
Depeyin Massacre by the thugs and goons of the junta in the past. Moreover, all Daw Aung San Suu
Kyi’s efforts for democratization of Burma forward will remain contrary to the junta that has
leading opposite way backward for the long run as we all see it. Than Shwe, a cruel and wicked
leader of junta will definitely take serious action against Daw Aung San Suu Kyi sooner rather than
later for sure.

In this light and view, we would like to appeal all the Nobel Peace Laurates to urge their own
governments to do within their power to protect her.

“Please use your liberty to promote ours”: Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

Sincerely,
