Florida's November Employment Figures Released
Florida's November Employment Figures Released
Governor
Cynthia R. Lorenzo
Director
“The November unemployment rate reflects the challenges our state is facing as we slowly
emerge from the national recession. Knowing that this is an uncertain time for many Florida
families, our agency has been closely monitoring the discussion in Congress on an additional
extension of federally funded unemployment benefits. With passage of the legislation last
night, we are prepared to immediately begin processing payments as soon as the president
signs the bill,” said AWI Director Cynthia R. Lorenzo. “We strongly encourage job seekers to
regularly visit www.employflorida.com, the state’s online job bank, for continuously updated
employment opportunities, resume assistance and access to training and education
programs.”
Employ Florida
The agency recently began a statewide radio campaign to encourage out-of-work Floridians
to take advantage of the online services available on www.employflorida.com.
In addition to the more than 218,000 job listings posted the week ending December 4, the
website also provides access to a “virtual recruiter” tool which emails job openings that match
registrants’ skills.
This week the agency began a pilot program in Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Madison,
Suwannee and Taylor Counties to provide unemployment compensation payments through a
Visa ® debit card. The optional debit card provides eligible beneficiaries access to funds from
one to four days sooner than traditional methods of direct deposit or paper checks. Statewide
implementation of the debit card program is planned for early 2011.
Regularly updated information about pending Congressional action, the debit card program
and other issues can be found on the agency’s website under UC Hot Topics at
www.floridajobs.org.

Statistics Program, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Note: These unemployment and job growth rates are estimates, which are primarily based on surveys created and mandated by the U.S. Bureau
of Labor Statistics in cooperation with the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation.
The unemployment rate is derived from Florida household surveys conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau under contract with the U.S. Bureau of
Labor Statistics. The job growth rate is derived from Florida employer surveys conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Both estimates are revised on a monthly basis. In addition, these estimates are benchmarked (revised) annually based on actual counts from
Florida's Unemployment Compensation tax records and other data.
New procedures recently mandated by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics may result in more variable month-to-month changes. For further
information, go to: http://www.bls.gov/sae/cesprocs.htm
