Thomas Voting Reports

Here are area lawmakers’ decisions on major roll-call votes in

Washington for the week ending Dec. 17.

U.S. Senate
‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Repeal: Senators voted, 65-31, to repeal the
17-year-old “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law that bars gays from serving openly in
the U.S. military. This occurred hours after the Senate mustered 63 votes
for ending long-running Republican blockage of the bill. A yes vote was to
send HR 2965 to President Obama.
Brown: Yes Voinovich: Yes

DREAM Act Rejection: Senators failed, 55-41, to reach 60 votes for

advancing a bill permitting children of illegal aliens to pursue citizenship by
finishing military service or two college years and passing several age, resi-
dency and character tests. This killed the measure this year and perhaps
for years to come. A yes vote backed a bill named the DREAM Act. (HR
5281)
Brown: Yes Voinovich: No

Key votes ahead

In the week of Dec. 20, both chambers will vote on a bill to fund govern-
ment operations until early next year, while the Senate will continue to
debate the New START arms-reduction treaty with Russia.
