Greetings Sisters and Brothers!
Happy New Year! This time of year is always filled with such expectation. Our slates Financial Report 2

are wiped clean and we have a new, fresh year in front of us. Those things we did not Caring and Sharing 2
do or follow through with and those mistakes of the past are all just that...in the past. 3

This is the new year. We can begin fresh, start over, and re-focus our energies. The

new year is the crossroad where the past is left behind and we are greeted with the
wonderful anticipation of the new year. Angelfood 6

In my former life as a retail store manager, I was selected to go through a training Calendar 7
based on the best practices of time management. It was a week long course where I
was given a very expensive binder, materials to use in that binder, and the professional
training to use all of this as it was intended. I found all of the information useful and
very beneficial to my time in the retail world. But there was one area that I have used
and depended on more than any other. It was called the Weekly Compass Card. This
card gave me the opportunity to define the roles I have in this life. Roles such as, hus-
band, father, pastor, son, brother, and uncle. There was also a place for you to write 01/03 Karen Baldwin
down a goal for the week that would help you sharpen your role in that area. This was 01/06 Jacob Greene
a wonderful tool for me to make sure I stayed sharp in my various roles or improve if I 01/08 Pam DuBois
needed to. 01/09 Betsy Markee
We are all in the business of improvement. We all have things we need to straighten 01/10 Joe Graff
up, sharpen, and make better. I would encourage you, as we begin this new year, to 01/11 Eric Barrow
take the time to sit down and define your roles in life. Then use this tool to monitor Alene Krouse
how your are doing in these roles. I have learned that if one of my roles is suffering, 01/13 Edith Caroleo
then it is not long before others start to suffer as well. 01/16 Jan Ridley
I believe this tool can be very valuable for us as Christians as well. One of my roles is 01/19 Nancy Johnson
child of God. For me that means that I need to strive to know God better, love God 01/21 Peggy Sue Munday
deeper, and serve God's Kingdom to the best of my ability. One of the best ways I 01/23 Emil Hass
know to begin that endeavor is to spend time reading Scripture. I have said many times 01/25 Vivian Bathurst
that I view the Bible as God's love story for humanity. Time and time again God re- 01/29 Danil Cantu
veals the love God has for humanity through the prophets, the stories, and ultimately Greg Hildenbrandt
through the sending of Jesus to Earth. Doris Pitts
01/31 Debbie Norman
I encourage all of you to look at the roles you play in this life. Always be mindful of Mark Johnson
how you are doing in those roles and always seek to do the very best you can. I also
encourage you to read God's love story for humanity. I post a schedule each week on
my blog that asks the participant to read four chapters of Scripture a day. If you follow
that, you will have read the New Testament twice and the Old Testament once during
the year with a few days to spare. I invite you to join me in that challenge. There are
also other formats for reading the Bible in a year that you can use as well. Take this
new year, this new opportunity, to make the daily reading of Scripture, of God's love 01/18 Nancy & John
story for humanity, a part of your roles. I promise you will be blessed, encouraged, and Battin
uplifted by it.
I pray 2011 will be filled with God's blessings, God's grace, and God's love for each
and every one of you.
Blessings - Pastor Daryl

Pass The Butter….Please.

This is interesting….Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people
who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what ot do
with this product to get their money back.
It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of
butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW...The difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.
Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams; compared to 5 grams for margarine.
Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a
recent Harvard Medical Study.
Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few and only because they are added!
Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..

Very high in Trans fatty acids
Triples risk of coronary heart disease. Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL
cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
Increases the risk of cancers up to five times..
Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response.
Decreases insulin response.
And here’s the most disturbing fact….HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!
Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC… shares 27 ingredients with PAINT.
These facts alone were enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means
hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it open in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will notice a
couple of things:
*no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something).
*it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny
microorganisms will not find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and
spread that on your toast?
Share this with your friends…(If you want to butter them up)!

Chinese Proverb: When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obliga-
tion to share it with others.

Pass the BUTTER PLEASE!

THANK YOU
Thank you to my church family for all the prayers, cards and concerns during my recent health issues. For the first time
in almost a year, I am no longer experiencing the heart palpitations. The new medicine is partly the reason for that, but I
am sure all your prayers have had the most influence.
God Bless!
Ruth Griffith

ROMEOs
The ROMEOs are a group of men who meet for breakfast every Tuesday at various local restau-
rants. They have been meeting continually for 22 years. They have had good years, enjoying good
food & fellowship. They are also proud of their concern for others. This year, they contributed
$300 to the Salvation Army to assist with their programs and $300 to Interfaith Emergency Ser-
vices.
If you would like more information about this group, please contact Russell Stein or Bill Pitts.
