From the Pastor 1

Greetings Sisters and Brothers!
Financial Report 2
What is the first thing you want to do when you get good news? When you receive
word that something great is about to happen, what is your first instinct? Do you keep Caring and Sharing 2
it to yourself? Do you tell just a few people? For me, when I get great news, I want to Parish Nurse 4
tell anyone who will listen!
Activities 3,4, 5
For instance, when both of my boys were born, I spread that news with reckless aban-
don. I had a list of people Debbie and I had prepared for me to call after Parker and Great Lakes Scrip 5
Wesley were born. I also had a list of email addresses, and from right there in the hos-
pital room I got on the computer and was emailing as fast as I was calling. Sometimes GoodSearch/GoodShop 5

I was doing both at the same time! I was so excited, so overjoyed, that I wanted to Calendar 7
share that news with others, with everybody. But more to the point, I wanted them to
feel as happy and elated as I did. I wanted to share more than just news, I wanted to
share a feeling...an emotion.
Today, I have good news that I want to share with all of you! The leadership of our
church has been in contact with our local Marion County YMCA and we have agreed
to be this year's host site for the YMCA Summer Day-Camp. The camp will run June 06/01 Mary Richardson
13th through August 19th, from 7am – 6pm, Monday through Friday. We now have the 06/03 Raymond Dyer
honor of being a place where a great many children will be able to come, gain guid- Sarah Lee
ance, and be given constructive ways in which to develop character and respect. The 06/09 Joy Anderson
YMCA has five core values that are the basis for everything they do; honesty, caring, 06/10 John Norman
respect, responsibility, and faith. They even provide scholarships, from inter-company 06/12 Debbie Ford
donations, for children so that finances are not a barrier to a child being able to be a Brad Fuller
part of this wonderful opportunity. 06/14 Bill Sivert
So what does this mean for us? It means we have been presented with a wonderful 06/15 Marlene McMurrer-
opportunity to share the love of Christ with a great number of young people. As we Shank
open up not only the doors of our campus, but the doors of our hearts; these young 06/18 Edgar DuBois
people will know they matter to us. We get to show them that the people of Druid Eunice Reid
Hills care for them and are excited about providing a place for them to feel safe and 06/19 Betty Erickson
learn how to be responsible, caring, honest adults. 06/20 Robert Hildenbrandt
06/22 Tom Bingham
It also means, as a part of this partnership with the YMCA, we will have the opportu- 06/23 Bonnie Knepp
nity to serve hot breakfasts and lunches to the children of Marion County, regardless of 06/26 Debbie Allen
whether or not they attend the YMCA Camp. We will have a hand in making sure the 06/27 Becky Klotz
children of Marion County do not have to go hungry this summer. 06/29 Elizabeth Easter
I am very excited about this and extremely proud of our church for working to make
this partnership a reality. This is us, as the hands, feet, and heart of Christ, telling the
children to come. Come and be loved. Come and be counted. Come and be taught.
Just come and be.
I hope you will join me in prayer this summer that these children will be molded by the
presence of God, that the YMCA staff will be energized for this good work, that the
children we get to feed will be nourished, but most importantly; that the love of God
will do a mighty work through this campus. This is a huge piece of incredible news
that we all can, and should, celebrate.
Blessings - Pastor Daryl

THANK YOU
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your incredible kindness and support in the last month during my
Dad’s illness and passing. I have received all kinds of cards, phone calls, emails and even Facebook and text messages,
from so many of you. I was especially touched that four members of our Druid Hills family made the trip down to repre-
sent you all at my Dad’s funeral service. Your support has been a great blessing. It is a very difficult journey, but I feel
your prayers helping to carry me through.
Blessing,
Debbie Allen

PARISH NURSE NEWSLINE

Joyce Baugher, R.N., Parish Nurse
June 1 is the beginning of hurricane season & this is a reminder to be prepared. Living in the center of the state gives us
all a feeling of “safe haven” but it is much better to be ready to evacuate, then have to rush to grab a few items. Your
“hurricane box” should include items like flashlight, batteries, bottled water, canned foods not needing to be cooked
(tuna, salmon, chicken, etc), can opener, medications, first aid kit, personal hygiene items, hand sanitizer, 3 days of un-
derwear & clothing & a pillow. The hurricane season lasts until November 20. Make sure you have gas in your car.
This is just a suggestion of items. Please be aware of safety issues.

MODELs
MODELs will meet at 12:30 pm on June 16 at The Schnitzel Factory, 1053 NE 14th Street Plaza. If you plan to attend,
please email your reservation to dhumcvol@yahoo.com or call the office by June 14. You can view a copy of their lunch
menu in the Church Office. If you pay cash or write a personal check, there is a coupon available online for 10% off
your total bill or you can make a copy of the coupon in the Church Office. Don’t forget to bring a dollar to be donated to
a local charity at the end of the year.

PRAYER SHAWL
On the third Wednesday of each month, at 10 AM, a small group of ladies meet in the Church Library to knit and/or cro-
chet prayer shawls. We would love to increase our numbers. If you can do either, we would love to have you join us. If
you do not do either, we would be glad to teach you. We even had one prayer shawl donated that was hand crafted by a
man. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Lou Welsh.

F I A (aka Faith in Action)

We will close out this year by going out to dinner on June 3. I will notify the Church Office when the place & time are
determined.
At the last council meeting, we talked about having a craft fair in Fellowship Hall on Sat., Oct. 8. I will be glad to chair a
committee, but I need some committee members to help. This fundraiser will go toward the new carpet in Fellowship
Hall. Please call me if you are interested & I’ll set-up a committee meeting. Please give this some prayers & thoughts.
