I like the woods in autumn
When dry leaves hide the ground, When the trees are bore
And the wi nd sweeps by
With a lonesome rushing so nd. I con rustle the leaves in autumn
And I can make a bed In the thick dry leaves That have fallen From the bare trees overhead.

Autumn is a busy time for the farmer. Wheat, oats and barley are ripe and must be cut and collected.
The farmer gathers the straw into bales. In the winter this is used to make worm beds for the animals.
The potatoes and sugar beet are harvested before the winter frost comes.
When all the crops are gathered the farmer ploughs the fields to have them ready for planting in spring.
The apples and pears in the orchard are ripe and ready to be picked.
