recent survey brought out by NASSCOM in a joint ini%a%ve with Booz

Allen Hamilton, a consultancy firm, stated the need for nearly 1.5 million
engineers in the Indian IT industry by next decade. It is evident that IITs,
NITs and few other premier engineering colleges alone can not churn out
enough engineers to meet this need and it is here the other engineering
colleges, private and public, play their role. But with new technology ins%tutes
mushrooming in every nook and corner of the country, a dilemma about the quality
of educa%on arises for both IT organiza%ons who are looking for good engineers and
students who want to pursue a career in this industry.
Hence, Siliconindia brings to you the Top 100 Engineering Colleges in India 2010.
At siliconindia, we understand that the despite the infrastructure, faculty, the fee
structure and other criteria, the sole parameter of judging a college’s quality is the
performance of its graduates in the industry, which in turn can be measured by the

pay package commanded by them. Thus, this list is en%rely based on a single param-
eter – CTC of a graduate aer five years of work experience.

Methodology:
To rank the best engineering colleges, a perceptual study was conducted among HR
managers, Recruitment firms and job boards. The companies/ins%tutes were chosen
carefully to ensure that the HR managers/professionals interviewed were involved
with recruitment and had a fair idea about the market. Over 3000 engineers who
graduated in the year 2005 and did not pursue any other course/program aer-
wards were interviewed across the six metros—Delhi, Mumbai, Calcu&a, Hyder-
abad, Bangalore and Chennai.
Aer an exhaus%ve research and analysis, we finally came up with a list of top
100 engineering ins%tutes (govt/private) in three streams – Computer Science, Elec-
tronics and Communica%on and Mechanical Engineering. Apart from this we also
formed a list top 10 ins%tutes across India in each zone.

Quality Management of Education in
KC Group of Institutions
T
oday most of our Education
administrators, parents, stu-
dents and faculty members
have begun to question and
seek better outcomes from
education — or at least to have better
sense of what current outcomes measure
in the case of higher education, especially
in professional colleges. This means that
quality in education is not only being
sought, but is now generating competi-
tion amongst the institutions too. For bet-
ter performing institutions it is now
imperative to adopt quality approach for
continuous improvement and perform-
ance. In the KC Group this need had
been recognized and Quality Manage-
ment process had been adopted at early
stages.
There are three levels of implemen-
tation of quality management. The first
level is adopting the best ‘management
processes’ which include strategic plan-
ning, recruiting and staff development,
deploying resources, and alignment of
what is taught, how it is taught, and how
it is assessed. In our regular faculty de-
velopment programs we update the fac-
ulty, both in the content development as
well as in teaching techniques, besides
providing support in carrying out the
process of self-evaluation through which
they can:
 Achieve the best outcomes for all
learners;
 Take measures to sustain quality, im-
prove teaching-learning process and
achieve excellence; and
 Meet the requirements of ‘Best
Knowledge Delivery’.
The next level is ‘teaching’quality to
students. We recognize Students as both
customers and workers in the educational
system. Educators are encouraged to in-

volve students in their own education by
training them to evaluate the learning
process and accept responsibility for their
learning. What the learning will look like
can no longer be predefined. Teachers
have to know what they want to evalu-
ate, however there are many choices as
to how the students arrive at the goals set
by them and by their teachers. For in-
stance, in the teaching of Business Man-
agement, the focus is not merely on
making them eligible to earn a university
degree. More importantly it is to make
them learn and master those business
skills that can make learners meet the
current business challenges in the indus-
try.
The highest level of quality princi-
ples is in ‘learning’. The highest impact
of quality management is felt when the
focus becomes instructional processes
and student learning. This is where it im-
pacts the classroom. To achieve the de-
sired results, teachers have to question
their core teaching and learning
processes and methods. In this quality
standards are established and adopted for
each work process that results in im-
proving grades and test scores. For this
reason our highly qualified and experi-
enced faculty facilitates innovating think-
ing by presenting the students with
enhanced learning environment ideal to
stimulate their growth as future tech-
nocrats/managers with problem solving
approach. They are given opportunities
to participate in seminars, group discus-
sions, self directed activities and listen to
eminent speakers from industry and aca-
demia. This learning also involves other
activities for their holistic development.
They are encouraged to organize and
participate amass in all extra and co-cur-
ricular activities whereby they learn, ex-
perience and exhibit ‘team player’ and

‘team leadership’ qualities.
We understand that in Educational
services, the ‘Best Value’ demands serv-
ices review that is rigorous and robust. It
means that all services are routinely sub-
jected to rigorous scrutiny and competi-
tion. In the education services, such
measures benefit in maximizing the ef-
fectiveness and efficiency of resource
usage, in addition to the achievement of
continuous improvement in the quality of
teaching and learning and to improving
achievement, attainment and other rele-
vant outcomes of the learners.
In the process of Six Sigma Imple-
mentation in our group, a DMAIC model
has been prepared. Using this DMAIC
model, the steps are being taken at every
level to create an environment for inno-
vation and constant improvement. Mod-
ule has been developed and implemented
in order to establish a close communica-
tion between teachers and students. This
module involves preparing a method to
obtain and evaluate everyone’s input.
There are four main sources of evidence,
from which evaluations are made. These
are:
 Performance data;
 Relevant documentation;
 Stakeholders’ (faculty, students and
parents) views and feedback; and
 Direct observation of instructional
practices.
Further improvements are then formu-
lated and designed for better teaching
learning processes, content development
and delivery processes.
The outcomes of this quality ap-
proach and methodologies have demon-
strated remarkable success in student
performance and their career growth.

What do you think that makes your
Institute an ideal place for learning?
Shri Balwant Institute of Technology
(SBIT) is located at Sonepat (NCR
Delhi). The campus is spread over 20
acres of plush greenery, only about 15
minutes drive from Delhi border. It is in
the hub of educational and entrepre-
neurial activities and located adjacent to
proposed Rajeev Gandhi Education
City. Guest lecturers from leading in-
dustry and industrial visits, industry in-
teraction, are a regular feature of SBIT.
How do you prepare your students to
keep up to the pace as it is the current

How is your institute working to-
ward the development of the
Local people?
This is our utmost responsibility to
contribute towards the society. We
run a program called “Koshish”
under which we provide free Com-
puter and English classes to all the
students who are in need.
What success have you had in safe

Initially it suggests that advance re-
search has not the detrimental effect
on participation of students. We are
planning to launch our journal –
“SBIT Journal of Science & Tech-
nology”. We are also planning to set
up an incubation centre in the cam-

Rural Engineering College, Bhalki in Bidar district located at the northern tip of Karnataka, established in Sept. 1982, is one of the best engineering colleges not only in Karnataka but also in the whole of India. It has got all the
characteristics of a Regional Engineering College where about 50% students are from Karnataka and the rest 50% are from all parts of India i.e., Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, UP, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam,

lab caters to the needs of students and staff to improve their language skills with the help of audio/visual interactive aids. National level Ranbhoomi 2008, Janani 2009, Technofest2010 are organized every year where platforms for
young brains to showcase their talent are provided. Many conferences at National level are being conducted by various departments and the institution is geared-up to host International conference ICN-2010 during Oct-2010.
The college assists students in Training & Placement activities, our placement record is 80% for eligible students. Till date, more than 6200 students have passed and are well placed in Govt., private and public sector
