There is annoying record surface noise which one can tolerate, bat on most ofthe selections there ic aloud droning low frequency hum which is practically unbearable. | would recommend staying away from the West Wind release of this mpe. I would like to know if the tum is present on the Yellow Note telease. Since meeting Nenewe Evansand talking with some ofthe musicians involved, I have thought of doing the following: take a pirated recording, make a new master with some “digtial cleaning- up," duplicate and sellche produc: on CD (marketing throwgh LFE), But unlike Mr. Wigt's il, I would enter into reyalyy arrangements with the estate, the side musicians, and the ‘music publishers, so that everyone invelved would get sone thing out of the deal. Legitimate record companies, such as; Fansasy, Sunnyside, Concord, and Wind. ham Hill regularly send me their products for review. ! have never received reviews products rom West Wind, Alfa, or other purveyorsf piracy, [don’t want 10 anger the legit companies by catering tothe other ones. We record buyers grumble about the unethical operations of some labels and then gladly plunk don the money (often a high price) for pirated recordings ‘The bortom line is that we buy the product. Yellow Note and the like know that. Tonce Said tha: one's conscience should bother them less if they accept (or even request) cassette copies of pirated recordings from friends. 1 was. in effect, condoning illegal coping of ilegal recordings. I was wrong, cand I apologize. That won't help the situation. One possible remedy is for legitimate record companies to purchase master rapes (good ones, suck as the Live in Buenos Aries 1979), remaster them, i necessary, for CD release, enter into the requisite royalty contracts, and release high quality CD's a & good price and availability to consumers. At absolutely no charge (except for expenses), I hereby offer my help in coor- dinating negotiations between tape owners and any record company wishing 10 1ake this on.
