NEW YORKERS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH MARKETS NNO NV To: Hon. Date: January 6, 2011 From: New Yorkers for Economic Growth Re: Wine in Grocery Stores As the Legislature works in the coming months to address the significant shortfalls that remain in New York's budget and as you seek to identify potential revenue sources that will have the support of residents across New York State, we urge you to consider allowing New Yorkers to purchase wine in grocery stores. This common-sense proposal, which has the support of a significant majority of New Yorkers, of all parties and regions, offers the possibility of hundreds of millions in desperately-needed revenue to fund core services without raising a single tax, but it also provides consumers with increased choice and convenience, creates 2,000 net new jobs, helps New York's wineries and grape growers, and offers independent liquor stores the types of regulatory relief and new growth opportunities they have sought for years. Attached you will find a memo that details more comprehensively the many benefits of this common-sense proposal. We will be reaching out to your office in the coming specks to set up a meeting to discuss why a broad coalition has come together to support it. Thank you.
