You are on page 1of 3

The main image in this double page spread takes up the majority of the page.

It is of the
lead singer of ACDC – they’re an old rock band. As the main title says, it asks “Is this any way
for a 53-year-old man to behave?” This links in with the picture as the leader singer of ACDC
is 53, yet he still can act like a kid and play really good music. 2 different guitars are used in
the photo, 2 different ones on the left, and the same 2 used on the right. This creates a
mirror image effect. They have specifically dressed the person in the image, in a school
uniform to support the title below. They have set the image up like a stop motion – taking a
photo one after the other really quickly to make it look like he has jumped up in the air
(relating back to the statement about him being kidlike.) The same effect is used to create a
flipbook. The main title on the page is “Is this any way for a 53-year-old man to behave?” As
said, this relates to the picture. It is in bold red writing, and in capital letters. This makes it
stand out and our eye is drawn to it due to the colour – the colour matches the one of the
uniform in the picture.
Like the previous double page spread, the two pages on this one are merged together to
create one big article. The main picture is of a famous band (Greenday) with their main
singer lying on the floor almost looking ‘tired out.’ This is a picture from one of their live
shows and could suggest that the band played there absolute best and now they are
exhausted. They have included the drums in the picture to reinforce the thought about the
picture being of one of their live shows. The title for the article is “live! tonight! SOLD OUT!”
The editor has cleverly used the band name from the display in the live show, and
emphasised it and used it in the title of the article. In the title it says “live!” which helps
backup the thought of the image being from a live show. They have used the image cleverly,
saying that there show will be really good because the band play until they are drained (like
in the picture.) The name of the article is clever. It uses exclamation marks and the last part
‘SOLD OUT’ is in capital letters to highlight that the tickets for their show have sold out –
supporting the fact that they are a ‘good band.’ They have used a logo for one of the
companies associated with the live show, so they also become recognised and they get
advertised. The main text block on the page is in a white colour, and is only part of the
article. The rest of the article will continue on a following page.
This double page spread is different to the previous two. This example sticks to the standard
way of a double page spread, and clearly has a picture on one side and the text on the other
side. Only the main title crosses through the middle of the page. I like the picture in this one.
It’s in black and white and matches the colour scheme of the rest of the page. It takes up the
whole of the first page and our eye is first drawn to it. The background on the second page
is in black and the text is in white/red to match the colours of the picture. The main title of
the article is the only thing that crosses the centre of the page. Part of the title text is in red,
and the rest is in white. The main part of the title is but in white as it stands out best on the
black background, and is a little bigger than the rest of the title. The title is a quote from the
person featured in the picture. The sub heading is also a bigger text size than the main
article. The sub heading usually gives us more information about the main article. The main
article itself only takes up about a third of the second page. The text is in a small size, but it
is relatively easy to read with it being white on the black background. The bottom half of the
second page and small part of the first page is taken up by more pictures related to the
article. They have put text over the images explaining what the picture is about. They have
also put a ‘bar’ down the right hand side of the page with some different information. I
really like the black/white/red colour scheme used on this double page spread, and I may
use it for my magazine colours.
