Vampire Baseball

Outfield triangles:
2 - 3⅞" squares, cut
on the 45˚ diagonal
to form four triangles
(dark green)
Bases:
4 - 1½" squares (off-
white)
Base lines:
4 - 1½" x 2¾"
rectangles (light
green)
Center:
1 - 2 1/16" square,
use template (brown)
Pitcher's Mound:
1 - 1" x 1¾" rectangle
(off-white)
2 - 1" squares
(brown)
Infield Triangles:
2 - 2 1/16" squares,
use template, cut on
the 45˚ diagonal to
form four triangles
Home Base:
1 - 1½" square of the
fabrics used for the
bases and the base
lines, cut on the 45˚
diagonal to form two
triangles of each
color.

Use a scant ¼” seam allowance.

Finished block size is 6”, with a ¼” seam allowance all around.

To prepare the pitcher's mound:

1. Sew a 1" brown square to both ends of the off-white pitcher's mound rectangle. Press the seam towards the darker
fabric.
2. Cut the center square (brown) in half. Matching the centers, sew one half of the center square to the top of the
pitcher's mound rectangle strip.
3. Trim off any excess fabric from the strip, matching it up to the length of the top part of the center square.
4. Sew the bottom half of the center square to the piece. Press the seams to the darker fabric.
5. Using the template, square up to 2 1/16".

To make home base:

1. Lay out the pieces of your block according to the diagram, except for the triangles you cut to make home base,
which you can set aside for now.

2. Take the baseline on the left, and mark the 45˚
diagonal, making a triangle at the corner of the
block, with the larger portion of the fabric on the
left side of the line.
3. Leaving a ¼" seam allowance (seam allowance
will be to the right of the line), cut away the
triangle you just marked. Keep in mind that this
piece is slanted, so the 45˚ diagonal is straight
up and down when placed in your block.
4. Repeat the process for the baseline to the right,
reversing so that you remove a triangle of fabric
(minus seam allowance) to the left of the 45˚
diagonal.
5. Lay the triangles you set aside in the block,
putting the long side of the off-white triangles
along the sides of home base. Place the light
green triangles on top of the off-white triangles,
together forming another triangle. Sew the
triangles together, forming opposite pieces.
6. Sew the triangles to the corresponding
baselines, re-forming them back to rectangles.
7. Replace the baselines to their correct positions
and leave the pieces laid out according to the
diagram.

Block Assembly:
1. Sew the infield triangles (cut from the template) to the center (pitcher’s mound) square. Sew opposite sides,
matching the centers of the triangles to the center of the square and pressing seams towards the triangles. Trim
away any points that extend beyond the seam allowance.
2. Sew the bottom left baseline to the center square and the top right baseline to that unit, pressing the seams
towards the baseline pieces. Lay the unit back in place.
3. Sew the bases to their corresponding baselines (top right baseline with third base on the left and second base on the
right; bottom right baseline with the square that will become home base on the left and first base on the right),
pressing the seams towards the baselines. Lay them back in their places.
4. Sew the second and third base unit to the top of pitcher’s mound unit, making sure that the baseline that will
complete home base is at the bottom of the unit. Press the seam towards the baseline. Add the home base and
first base unit to the bottom of the pitcher’s mound unit. Press the seams towards the baseline.
5. Sew the outfield triangles to the infield unit, sewing them on opposite sides, matching the centers of the triangles to
the center of the square and pressing the seams towards the triangles. Trim away any points that extend beyond
the seam allowance.

Add buttons or appliqué a baseball and bat to
