We recognize that the educational journey must also include opportunities for fun. Our campus is ideally located near the excitement of San Francisco, the action of numerous professional sports teams (As, Raiders, Warriors, Sharks, 49ers, Giants and the EarthQuakes), and the funky culture of Berkeley. The HNU campus is a safe and lively home base that puts the bright lights of the big city within your reach. We encourage you to climb the 106 steps to the top level of our hillside campus and look out from the balcony in front of McLean Chapel. You can see virtually the whole San Francisco Bay Area spread out in front of you. It is a spectacular sight. The value of our location, however, goes beyond the priceless view or the scenic beauty of the campus. Our faculty are experts in their fields with impressive academic backgrounds. Most of them have earned doctorates and many have published scholarly articles and books. Most of your classes will consist of 15-18 students. We provide academic support and study skills training through the Student Success Center. We also offer internships, self-designed majors and other programs that bring learning to life. We are a student-centered educational institution. Every member of the administration, faculty, staff and the entire HNU community recognizes that we are here because of, and for, our students. Faculty at HNU are just as passionate about your educational experience as they are about the classes they teach. They will share, explore and cultivate these interests with you. At HNU you will learn about the history of Central America from one of our professors who grew up in El Salvador. You will read essays and explore literature with a professor who is a published author. You will also learn the accounting field and marketing strategies from a professor who is a Certified Public Accountant and who was the owner of a privately held company. Our professors are passionate and engaged in their fields, and will share their knowledge and enthusiasm with you.

Student Success Admissions and Technology at HNU

In Fall 2009 we unveiled the transformation of Brennan Hall into a 15,800 square-foot full service student center with classrooms, faculty offices, a bookstore, a lounge, a caf, the HEDCO Technology Center, the Center for Social Justice and Civic Engagement and the Student Success Center (SSC). HEDCO Technology Center has state of the art cross-platform large screen Apple computers making it simple to use them as a PC or a Mac. The SSC offers tutoring, laptop computer loaners, career guidance, health and wellness counseling and psychological services and materials, international student services (ISS) and disability support services. On campus we stay connected as a community through electronic communication portals like Blackboard and MYHNU student email. Wireless internet throughout the campus allows you to form study groups and research your next essay topic from just about anywhere youd like. In class, professors utilize SmartBoard technology to make taking notes and keeping up with lectures simple and easy. As professors record in-class discussion notes, the information is uploaded immediately to your student portal for future study.

The HNU Hawks are flying high! Our coaches boast 22 Conference Coach of the Year Awards. Together the womens and mens athletic teams have won a total of 44 Conference Championships, produced 28 NAIA All-Americans, 30 Conference MVPs, and made 30 NAIA National Championship Tournament appearances. As a NAIA member, our men and women compete against other universities throughout California and the country. All HNU students have the opportunity to grow through experiences across and beyond the campus. Get involved! While you may come up with great ways to have fun on your own, the Student Activities Committee makes sure that there is always something to do on or around campus. You will probably find that there is already a club or organization that is dedicated to one of your favorite activities. If there isnt, be creative! At HNU, students are encouraged to start new clubs and initiate new activities. Special events occur at different times of the academic year. At the beginning of the year, new students have the opportunity to go on a bay cruise for a dance and tour of the San Francisco Bay.

As an incoming freshman you will participate in our Connections Project First Year Experience. This program is specifically designed to help students build relationships with each other, faculty and staff as they develop a deeper understanding of Holy Names University. The program was designed with a primary goal of assisting students with a successful transition to college, while developing students into leaders of positive social change through interactions with the campus and local community. Students choose from a variety of courses which are all connected to a campus learning community. The learning communities are designed around three areas of commitment to social justice: Diversity, Leadership and Service.

My Connections Project group is taking a trip to the Chabot Space and Science Center. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other and it will be a lot of fun.

The Value ofAdmissions HNU

100% of the incoming students to Holy Names University receive some sort of HNU grant or scholarship assistance in paying for school. This is money we give you to help pay for school that you dont ever have to pay back. It is the goal of HNU to assist students with the overall cost of attendance: tuition, books, room and board, travel, etc. Along with HNU financial assistance, most students will apply for federal financial aid using the FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) which can be found at www .fafsa .ed .gov. The application is free and this is how you qualify for grants, loans, and federal work study to assist in paying for college. California residents who qualify for the Cal Grant will receive up to $9,708 per year to help pay for school at Holy Names University.

Freshman Applicants are considered for admission based on the overall strength of their high school record, SAT or ACT scores, an essay (prompts provided), leadership and extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation. We do not have any minimum academic requirements for admission. We are looking for well rounded and curious students who are prepared for the academic rigor of a university. Students must have completed the minimum curriculum required for high school graduation in order to be eligible for admission. Some majors may be looking for proficiency in particular areas such as math and science. Contact your HNU admissions counselor for more information on admission criteria or call 1-800-430-1321.
