2009 Show-Me STATE GAMES a success!


 
COLUMBIA, Mo.- Over three weekends, thousands of athletes participated in the 2009 Show-Me
STATE GAMES, making it a success. This year, marked the 25th anniversary of the largest state
games in the nation. There were more than 40 different events for participants of all ages and all
abilities to take part in. Listed below are some of the success stories from this year’s events.
• Nick Jacquin threw a complete game no hitter in the Show‐Me STATE GAMES on July 24. 
Nick is from Washington, MO and is only 14‐years‐old.  His no hitter helped his team gain 
victory in a 7‐0 win. Nick had 8 strikeouts and only allowed 2 walks during the game. Nick 
says he was really trying to get the whole game shutout but wishes he had not let those 
two batters walk. This was his third time participating in the Show‐Me STATE GAMES. He 
looking forward to playing legion ball as well as high school ball next year. 
• Fifteen‐year‐old Dylan Aikens, from Centralia, MO, bowled 289 on Sunday, July 19. 
• Donna Wilson, an 84‐year‐old from Columbia, MO, lent her time to both volunteering and 
participating in the basketball skills competition this year. She won two gold medals, 
making one shot in around the world and four free throws. However, she says she was 
just happy to be a part of the GAMES! 
The Show-Me STATE GAMES was established in 1985 as a non-profit program of the Governor’s
Council on Physical Fitness & Health and has now grown to be the largest state games in the nation.
This statewide multi-sport program is designed to inspire Missourians to develop their physical and
competitive abilities and to foster an amateur athletic network of participants, volunteers and sports
enthusiasts throughout Missouri.
