PROLOUGE

THE DREAM:

The room is a haze. All I can see is his hands around her neck.
Katelyn’s neck. “No!” is all I can find to say as I run to her. But I’m too late,
he already let her go. She falls to the floor. There is blood everywhere on
her body. I fall to my knees beside her, folded over with pain, to cradle her
in my arms. I hear his ghoulish laugh behind me but all I can do is call her
name.

“Katelyn, Katie please don’t go, please don’t die.” I pleaded with her
through my sobs. I see my tears fall into her blood. Her eyes are unfocused
now and yet I can see her pain in them. “Katelyn!” I call again, knowing she
can’t answer. Then her eyes roll back into her head and her breathing
stops.

“No…” is all I can whisper…

I woke up in my large bed with a gasp. My hair was stuck to my forehead

with sweat even though it was a cold morning. I took a deep breath to settle
myself. I’ve had nightmares before but not like this. I’ve been having this
nightmare for some nights now and it’s the worst I’ve ever had. I can’t bear to
think of Katelyn as dead. She’s the reason why I’m not in college this year. I have
to make sure that she is safe.

I got out of bed and went to get ready to pick her up for school. It was her
birthday today. I got in my car after I ate a quick breakfast and I was off to her
house. This wasn’t my Ferrari. It was my new car that my parents bought for me. I
loved this car, who wouldn’t; it’s an Aston Martin Vanquish. But at the time that I
got it, it made me a little miserable. All I could think about was telling Paul. We
would have acted like children who just got candy.

I was a few minutes early when I got to Katelyn’s so I went up to her door.
As I was about to knock I heard a loud gasp. It sounded like Katelyn. I went to the
side of the house to peer through the living room window. And that’s when I saw
the shocking headlines: MURDERER PAUL BANNER HAS ESCAPED FROM A
JUVENILE DELINQUENCY CENTER IN WASHINGTON.

“Murderer Paul Banner…” the reporter started to say but I had no time to
stay and listen. I hurried back to the car to get my cell phone. There was someone I
had to call. I sat down in the car. I hadn’t used this speed dial in a while. It rang
three times then,

“Hello?” he asked.
4|Page Katelyn and Carlisle – Carlisle’s Turn

“Douglas, it’s me, Carlisle, did you see the news about Paul? I have to do
something about him.”

“Yeah I just saw it Charlie. I haven’t heard from him so I don’t know where
he is. I don’t kill people anymore so I don’t contact him.” He said. I chuckled
silently to myself. I didn’t believe that.

“Okay Doug I have to go Katelyn is coming.”

“Katelyn? You mean that pretty little thing you told me about. How is she?”

I sighed. “She’s fine Doug I’ve got to go.”

I hit the end button and put my phone in my back pocket. I had to lie to her
now. I didn’t want her to know that I saw the news this morning. I took a deep
breath; I hadn’t lied to her in a long time.

I got out and walked around the car. I wasn’t going to bring up Paul. I’d let
her do it, if she wanted. Otherwise I’m going to kill him before he could get to her.
Paul was always one for vengeance so that means Kira would be in the most
danger. But I have to put all of it away today…for Katelyn. I leaned against the car
and mouthed “Happy Birthday” to her, watching her expression carefully. I flashed
her a smiled when she smiled at me. And then came what I was looking for. Her
face changed and her smile disappeared and I knew which thought popped into her
head. But now comes the lying. I pushed myself off the car and went to her.

“What’s wrong?” I pretended to ask, whispering the question in her ear and
resting my chin in her hair. Her hair smelled nice as usual, like kiwi, her favourite
shampoo.
5|Page Katelyn and Carlisle – Carlisle’s Turn

“Did you see the news this morning?” she asked me.

“No, I never see the news these days, I’m always with you. Why?”

“Uh, nothing. Nothing’s wrong. I guess I just would rather be with you
today than be in school.”

“Babe, school is important.”

“Says the guy who didn’t go to college.” She said smiling wryly. Yeah, says
this guy. What do I care about school? I already ruined my life. I have parents that
love me with all the money I need and the only hobby I could have found was
killing people. I’m twisted, I know that. I shouldn’t even be around Katie but I’m a
criminal and I’m selfish…I love her. But I wasn’t going to let her miss school.

I was staring at the floor now. I pulled myself from my reverie and said in a
low voice.

“I’m rich, so I can go to college whenever I want. And you know that I
didn’t go so I could be with you this year.”

She sighed and I held her close to hide my expression. More like I want to
be her to protect her this year. I knew where I was going and it wasn’t college. Try
jail…try hell! By the time I let them catch me I’ll be too old for juvi. I’m already
almost eighteen and I’m not leaving until Katelyn is safe. That’s why I have to find
Paul. One last deed before I have to leave her.

I pulled myself together and pulled her back to see her expression. Then I
sighed, for me and her.
6|Page Katelyn and Carlisle – Carlisle’s Turn

“Cheer up babe, it’s your birthday. Come on get in, it’s time for school.” I
said turning to open the passenger door for her.

As we drove, Katelyn sighed at my side. I was so worried about her, what

was she thinking now? I hope she can handle this.

We pulled up in front of the school and Katelyn was staring out the window.
Oh. Kira was standing there and by the look on her face, she saw the news too.
This must affect her more than it affects Katelyn. Katelyn turned to give me a kiss,
just a quick good bye kiss as usual but my emotions flared and I pulled her back. I
had to kiss her more because I needed comfort. Isn’t that funny, me being the one
to need the comfort? But only for this moment, only until the frustration of Paul’s
escape wore off and I was ready to find him. Katelyn made everything better for
me, she was my medicine. And now I was ready.

I moved my lips to her ear and whispered, “You make me whole Katie,
never forget that, never leave me. I love you.”

When Katelyn got out of the car a mission started, but not the one you think.
It was her birthday mission. Paul or not, this party must go on. I had to make sure
everything was perfect for this evening. First, I would meet our parents at the teen
club, The Brink, to set the party up. The Scorpions…Katelyn’s Scorpions…had
there own plan for The Brink this evening. Katelyn had successfully taken over my
popularity role when she turned a senior and I left. Why wouldn’t she, she’s smart,
beautiful and the most wonderful girl in the world.

Next I went to my parents’ private garden. Katie loves white roses and this
garden was laden with them. In fact, there were only white roses there. I’ve seen
7|Page Katelyn and Carlisle – Carlisle’s Turn

them in the evening; they seem to glow in the sunlight. It would be perfect. All that
had to be done now was dress the plants with thousands of tiny white bows. But I
didn’t have to do that, the decorator did. They were doing it all morning. And so,
to no surprise of theirs, I offered to help. There’s also a pretty little fountain in the
middle of the garden, a symbol of the day we actually agreed to meet.

The day before, the others had made a deal with me after a few hours of
argument, that I could get to have Katelyn to myself as long as she doesn’t mention
them in any way. If she did, it would be time for her party. As soon as everything
was finished I headed back to Katie’s school.

###

Finally her school was over. I watched Katelyn and Kira argue as they
walked outside. I knew it was just a little spat because Kira wanted to sneak off to
the club to finish decorate. She also promised to take a cab so I could have Katelyn
all to myself. They came closer to the car and Kira waved at me, clearly to distract
Katelyn. As soon as her diversion worked she wheeled and quickly headed down
the block.

Katelyn entered the car and I leaned over to give her our afternoon kiss but
she kissed me back without even looking at me. She was looking in Kira’s
direction. She must be overly worried because of the Paul thing. Damn!

“Read for your birthday to start babe?” I asked to distract her but it didn’t
work. I sighed, “Unless you’d like to stare into space some more.”

She turned and smiled at me, bearing it. She wouldn’t have to bear it for
long though. Soon she’d really be smiling.
8|Page Katelyn and Carlisle – Carlisle’s Turn

“Okay, sorry. I’m ready, so what are we doing?

“Ha, that funny and cute that you think that I’m going to tell you.” I laughed.

I was driving at what Katelyn though was fast. How naive? We drove into
the city, retracing my last venture to my parents’ private garden. It took about
twenty minutes, which was good because I wanted as much time with Katie as I
could get. Who knows when she would mention the others? I wasn’t really trying
not to say anything but it was an act. The ‘innocent-boyfriend-who-can’t-lie-vey-
well’. So we drove in silence.

Then we were there. I slowed down a little near the small corner into the
narrow lane. The car would fit perfectly; she’ll be able to see the leaves brush
against it. Then the light of the sun coming down on the garden reached us and I
stopped. I was right; the flowers did glow in the evening sun.

“Happy Birthday.” I said in a soft tone. She seemed too caught up in the
view or the surprise so I just got out and went to open her door for her. The scent
of roses was strong but not overpowering. She would love it. I opened the door and
she inhaled deeply. I held out my hand for her and she took it. I lead her to the
middle of the garden near the fountain. She looked so beautiful here even though
she was still in her uniform. But it was her cheerleading uniform so I was satisfied.

“Do you like it?” I asked.

“I-I-I” she stuttered, still awestruck.

I chuckled and spun her around lightly. I was still holding her hand. Then I
pulled her close to me. I moved her slowly in a circle, dancing to no music. I
would like to think that we danced to out heartbeats. That would have been the
9|Page Katelyn and Carlisle – Carlisle’s Turn

romantic explanation. But the truth is that I wasn’t dancing: I was drifting in a haze
of emotion. While I swayed here with her I didn’t know how to feel between love,
bliss, and passion. Looking at her was even more overwhelming. Then she started
to say what I felt.

“I love this. This moment, this feeling, this place, all of it. It’s all so
beautiful…” she said letting the sentence trail off and I understood why. Because
the sentence shouldn’t end, just like this moment.

“I know what you mean.” I said, “This is my parent’s private garden. They
let me borrow it for you, a beautiful place for the most beautiful girl. I know you
love white roses and we officially met near a fountain. Now all you have to do is
slip.” We both laughed.

“Thank you.”

“I would only do it for you.”

“Why?”

“I think you know why,” I said pulling her back a little to catch her bright
silvery gray eyes with mine. “But I want to say it. I love you Katelyn. I love you so
deeply. And I will always love you.

Her silence flattered me even though I wished she would say something. I
leaned in to kiss her then I got my wish…the wrong wish.

“Where’s everyone else?” she suddenly said against my lips as I was about
to kiss her. Damn it! I sighed and rolled m eyes in annoyance.

“Sorry.” She apologized.

10 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

“It’s okay, a deal is a deal.”

“What deal?” she asked and then I realized that I didn’t tell her about the
deal.

“Nothing, the deal was that I get to keep you all to myself once you fail to
mention everyone else. And when you do then it’s time for your party. I’ll call
your dad and tell him we’re on our way.”

“Aww, and also damn it.”

“Katelyn.” I said sternly, how cute.

“Sorry but I want to stay here. Please!” she pleaded

“Maybe I can cheat just for you. Okay we’ll stay for a few more minutes.”

###

We left a half an hour later. I try not to break deals but how could I not.
Time with Katelyn made me feel innocent again. She made me feel as if I deserved
her. But I didn’t and when I die I will pay for my sins, one of them including
converting this perfect innocence that I do not deserve.

As I drove her to her party I thought of this. My family and hers were
already there waiting. Her Scorpions were already there too. I remembered seeing
the outfits they planned to wear and asking them why they hadn’t gotten her one. I
sighed internally; she would look great in that.

As soon as we opened the doors of the club the cheering began.

“Give me an S.” Kira leaded.

11 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

“S.” the rest chanted.

“Give me a U.”

“U.”

Etcetera. Katelyn’s eyes brightened and her pretty smile stretched across her
face. She was beaming. And so the party began. Kira introduced me to her new
friend, Candy, who she wanted to join her group. The Scorpions all danced
together, not allowing me to get a turn, of course, because I already got mine. The
party ended at 2 a.m. That wasn’t much late for me but Katelyn was exhausted. I
stared at her as I walked her to her father’s car. She gave me a sleepy good bye.

“How was your day?” I asked.

“Perfect. The party was good too.” she answered and we both chuckled.

“Bye babe, love you.”

“Bye, love you too.” She said then got into her father’s car.

I stood there watching until their car disappeared.

“2 a.m.” I mumbled to myself as I walked to my car. I had so much to do

still. I got in my car and headed home.

###

When I got home I started to think immediately; what would Paul do?
Where would Paul be? I sat at my study desk and turned on my desk lamp. Then I
grabbed a notepad and pen and wrote the only thing I knew Paul for. ‘He needs a
12 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

wingman.’ He always did. The only person I could think of was Douglas. I would
have to pay him a visit.

“Katelyn, Katie please don’t go, please don’t die.” I pleaded with her
through my sobs. I see my tears fall into her blood. Her eyes are unfocused
now and yet I can see her pain in them. “Katelyn!” I call again, knowing she
can’t answer. Then her eyes roll back into her head and her breathing
stops.

“No…” is all I can whisper.

Then all I can hear is Paul’s sinister laugh behind me. I turn and there
is a second laugh. Kira is standing next to Paul. I slowly stand, gently
placing Katelyn’s body on the floor. They stop laughing. Paul steps forward
but Kira just fades away. I pull the gun out of my back pocket and I aim it at
Paul’s throat. We were a few feet from each other.

“Paul, why?” I ask my voice thick with tears.

“Because you betrayed me.” He said and I fired a shot.

I woke up at my study desk at six o’clock that morning. I still had time
before going for Katelyn. This dream was confusing. Why Kira? Damn, I was
getting nowhere. But one thing was clear. I would have to kill Paul.

I got ready and left to get Katelyn. I was there early as usual. I blew my horn
for her and then went over to the passenger’s side. A few seconds later she was out
the door. She looked like she was out f breath. Her morning must have been rough
from going to sleep that late. She still managed to look beautiful this morning.
13 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

“Hey baby, good morning.” I said.

“Good morning, why are you so neat and early? I’m a wreck.” she answered.

“I think you look stunning. Besides, you’re not much of a party person.” I
chuckled.

I opened the car door for her and she kissed me before she went in. While I
drove I thought about the nightmare. Why Kira?

Halfway there Katelyn’s phone rang.

“Hello, Kira?” she answered the phone. So it was Kira. “Oh my God Kira,
what did it say?” she gasped in horror and I glance over at her. I was suddenly
more interested in their conversation than my driving. “Okay calm down a little.
Where are you?” she responded to her.

Then the conversation changed from panicked to friendly.

“I’ll fix you, of course I will and no, I don’t look perfect, I woke up late
too.”

“She looks perfect.” I stated loud enough for Kira to hear.

So is that what they were panicked about. That eased my worries and I was
able to focus again.

Katelyn sighed “Okay Kira, I’m almost there. Okay bye.”

I parked in front of the school a few minutes after.

“Carlisle I have to tell you something.” Katelyn said.

14 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

“Is something wrong with Kira?” I asked though I had doubt about that now.

“Uh, yeah mostly. Carlisle, she got a message on her pillow this morning.”
All doubt gone. Eerie messages were a thing Paul did with revenge. Katelyn
continued after a short pause. “I was supposed to tell you that the news yesterday
morning said that…uh…Paul escaped from jail.” She said. I already knew that. I
was in deep thought now, my expression frozen. Paul was too close to us and I had
no clue how to find him. I had to do something. I hoped it wouldn’t come to this
but I had to interrogate Douglas. Douglas was my friend but betrayal was a
common thing on his part. This would be risky.

Katelyn said something else but I wasn’t paying attention. I dropped my face
into my hand and whispered a word that I try not to say in front of a lady. Then
rage struck through me hard. Paul would surely pay. But I had to conceal my rage
while Katelyn was here. I breathed deeply a few times then I lifted my head. I
looked straight forward so she wouldn’t see my eyes burn as I tried to keep the
inflection out of my voice.

“Katelyn, get out.” I ordered. I didn’t want to be harsh but I needed her to
go.

“What?”

“I’m sorry but I have to go now. Please, Kira is waiting for you.”

“Uh okay, bye.” She opened the door and got out.

As soon as she closed the door I hit the gas and was on my way to Douglas.
He lived close to our town. He could be in league with Paul and by going there I’m
15 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

risking my life. I’m afraid of that. I won’t let myself die before I protect Katelyn
from Paul.

As I arrived I took the gun from the secret compartment in my car and put it
in my back pocket. Douglas’ apartment building was very old looking with rusty
pipes and doors. I walked down the creepy halls until I saw the room number, 103.
I eased the gun out of my back pocket and pointed it at the door. I heard Doug on
the other side of the door mumbling something to himself.

“Paul is going to kill me if I don’t get out of here fast.”

He was heading for the door. As soon as he opened it, I held him at gun
point. He just sighed and back away. I followed him into the apartment, still
holding my gun to his head, and kicked the door close with my foot.

“What do you want Carlisle.” He asked harshly.

“I’m asking the questions Doug,” I told him “where is Paul?”

“I don’t know.” he stated.

“You’re lying.”

“No I’m not so get out of my way.”

“Paul needs a wingman Douglas, so who is it, if not you?”

“I don’t know a thing.”

He was getting me nowhere. I slapped him the gun and his lip began to
bleed.

“Damn it, Carlisle.”

16 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

“Tell me who is Paul’s accomplice, or I will kill you.” I shouted.

“Kill me? For her?” he asked in shock. “And I thought betrayal was my
thing.”

He was still wasting my time. Damn! My rage flared and I punched him in
his face. He flew back into the wall and slid to the floor. This time his nose bled. I
put my foot on his fingers that were on the floor and pressed down hard.

“Tell me!”

“Okay!” he shouted and I eased of his fingers. “Her name is Candy. Pretty
little thing too.”

“Candy?” I repeated. That sounded familiar.

“Yeah Candy Millian, that’s it.” He confirmed.

Why is that name so familiar? I was in deep thought, forgetting my

surroundings. Just then Douglas pulled my feet from under me and I fell, hitting
my head. My head started spinning.

“Sorry Charlie but I have to get out of here now.” Then his foot came down
on my face.

I stand slowly, gently placing Katelyn’s body on the floor. They stop
laughing. Paul steps forward but this time instead of Kira there was another
girl fading. That girl from Katelyn’s birthday party. I hear ringing now as the
girl fades away. I try to think thought it. The girl from the party, Katelyn’s
new friend. Candy!...
17 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

I woke up to hear my phone ringing and then it stopped. I looked at it and

there were three missed calls from Katie. I looked around and remembered where I
was. Damn it! Douglas took my gun.

“Candy!” I said her name like an expletive. She’s so close to Katelyn, she
could strike at any moment. I had to get back. But first I had to go home and get
another gun. I sighed. At least he didn’t kill me.

###

I put my gloves on, got my silver hand gun and a black hand gun for my
back pocket…just in case… and hurried over to Katelyn’s school. The school was
deserted. I tried her cell but it was off. I drove over to her house. When I got there I
knocked on her door and her father came out.

“Hello, Mr. Chase, is Katelyn here?” I tried to ask calmly.

“No she isn’t Carlisle. Didn’t she tell you? She went to her friend Candy’s
house for there monthly sleep over.” He father told me. “Would you like the
address? Katelyn gave me a piece of …”

“Yes I would.” I interrupted him. He talks kind of slow to me.

He eyed me suspiciously for a moment then he went into the living room.
He came back with the piece of paper.

“Here you go.” he said.

“Thank you Mr. Chase.”

18 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

Then I had no more time to be polite. I ran to my car and sped away. It
didn’t take long to reach Candy’s house. The house was in such an ostentatious
place. It was an outrageous coloured suburban house. I knew I was in the right
place because Macy, Tricia, and Caroline were there. This was not a good sign.
Panic grew over me but I tried to control myself. I got out and went to Caroline.

“Where’s Katelyn and Kira?” I demanded.

“I don’t know, maybe they haven’t gotten here yet. They left with Katelyn’s
dad.”

“Why are you all outside?”

“We knocked like a million times but no one answered. We’ve been here for
a half an hour now.” complained Macy. I carefully walked up to the door and gave
it a sturdy knock. No one answered. Then I quickly diverted Katelyn’s Scorpions
away from the house. I wanted to break in.

“Maybe you girls have the wrong house or something. There’s no one her.” I
said pretending to look through the window.

They had all come in Caroline’s Honda Civic.

Macy sighed. “Okay guys, I think he’s right so we should go.”

They all pouted a little and headed for Caroline’s car. Finally! I went to my
car and got my guns, quickly attaching a silencer nozzle to the silver one. I hurried
as I shot open the locked door knob. I searched upstairs first with no success. Then
I made my way to the kitchen, still nothing. As I turned to leave the kitchen I
caught sight of a downward staircase in the corner…basement. I walked down
19 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

slowly and angled my gun. I kicked open the door and there they were. Paul and
Candy were standing there. I looked around and saw no signs of Katie and Kira.

“Carlisle, my best friend.” Paul said arms out.

“Paul, you son of a…”

“No need for expletives Carlisle.” He cut me off.

“Where is Katelyn?” I shouted.

“Lower your gun Carlisle.”

“Where. Is. She?”

“Look around, what do you see?”

“Don’t play games with me Paul.”

He just stared at me with a sickening smile. I sighed, “I see about a hundred

boxes here.”

“Good boy. Now all you have to do is find out which ones Katelyn and Kira
are in. They have only ten minutes of air left. Hurry Carlisle the clock is ticking.”

There was a sudden scream…Katelyn. I looked in her direction, only seeing

boxes. Paul and Candy both came at me at the same time. I redirected Candy’s path
by pointing the gun at her. She dodged and ended up behind me. She rebounded
faster than I thought she could though. I felt a sharp pain in my back that knocked
the air out of me and I gasped. I threw myself into Paul and he flew into some
boxes. He flew into Katelyn’s box, and as it fell it broke and she rolled out. I
swiftly grabbed the gun out of my back pocket and pointed it at Candy, stopping
20 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

her in her tracks and pointed my other gun at Paul so he wouldn’t get any ideas.
Katelyn looked up in time to see the result of this. But I couldn’t get to her, she
was behind Paul.

Then I heard someone gasping. Kira’s air must be running out.

“Kira!” Katelyn shrieked.

I tried to figure out where Kira was but Candy used my distraction to jump
onto me and we both fell to the floor. The black gun slipped from my hand and
Paul grabbed it. Enough was enough; Candy was really getting on my last nerve! I
rolled to my feet and before she could get up I knocked her the hell out with my
gun. She wasn’t even an important entity. She was just Paul’s tool.

I heard a squeal from Katelyn and turn to her. Paul was holding my other
gun to her head. Damn it! How much more could I mess up. Then I decided that it
was time. Paul was going to die. I pointed the gun at him.

“Drop the gun Carlisle or I’ll kill her right now.” Paul said.

“Please, please don’t.” Katelyn pleaded with him.

“She’s asking you not to get her killed Carlisle.”

I stared at her for a while, thinking about what to do. I had to distract Paul.
He had a very quick shot and I could let him hurt her. So I began to lie.

“You were already going to kill her Paul.”

“You say that like you don’t care.”

“Maybe I don’t.”
21 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

I tried not to look at Katelyn anymore, I was scaring her.

“Do you?” Paul asked.

“I don’t.” I answered as strongly as I could, trying hard not to budge. It was

hard to see Katelyn cry because of me. I shifted my gun point to her head and
fought the tremors rolling threw my body. Paul’s eyes shifted along with the gun…
distracted. Exactly what I needed. It only took a half second for me to aim directly
at Paul’s head and fire. I watched as he fell to the floor, savoring that moment.

Then all my attention went back to Katelyn.

“Katelyn are you okay?” I shouted, running to her.

I held her to my chest as she cried. I took my pocket knife out and cut the
ropes off her hands and feet. Kira started to cough then and Katelyn forgot her pain
and immediately went to free her. This gave me time to finish the job

I went over to Candy and made sure she was still unconscious. I had already
planned this out in my head. I was going to frame her. It meant loosing my
favourite silver gun, but I was willing to make that sacrifice. I put it in her hand
making sure to make the right finger prints on it. I unscrewed the nozzle from the
gun and turned to help Kira. I went over to her and cut the ropes on her hands and
feet too.

I looked back at Candy, the scene was perfect. I still had it. I fought back a
smile and said,

“Come on girls, we have to leave.”

22 | P a g e K a t e l y n a n d C a r l i s l e – C a r l i s l e ’ s T u r n

I lead the way to the car taking there bags with us. Nothing should link them
to this house.

In the car Katelyn started to freak out, which was healthy.

“Carlisle, what did you just do?” she whispered.

“What?” I asked.

“What did you just do? You just killed Paul. Oh my God, oh my God!” she
started hyperventilating.

“Calm down Katelyn. Take a deep breath. Listen…you can never repeat that
sentence ever again to anyone, you understand. That goes for you too Kira. What I
did was a necessity. Please just keep it to yourselves.”

“Carlisle…” she started to retort.

“I will explain everything to you later Katelyn. Please just let us go to my

house and freshen up. I have some things to do.” I said and then I sighed.

At my house I had a few more things to do before I could relax. I went up to

my room and lit the fireplace. I threw my gloves in and then I grabbed the phone.
This phone was a special phone. It changed the frequency of my voice and it had
no caller ID. I had about ten of them. I dialed the Greendale police station’s
number. This was the finishing touch on framing Candy. I ordered the girls to be
quiet as the phone rang.

“Greendale’s police department, I have a hint for you,” I said walking into
the next room for extra measure, “Paul Banner has been spotted at #3 Franklin
Street…” Candy’s house, “…with a school girl. I think you should hurry.” I hung
up before they had a chance to respond.

I walked back out to Katelyn, Kira was in the shower. I threw the phone into
the fireplace and then sat beside Katie and held her hand.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Yes, I am.”

“Please, Katie, please know that I didn’t mean what is said. I didn’t mean it
when I said that I don’t care about you. It was just a trick. I’m so sorry I made you
cry. I’m so sorry.” I couldn’t stop apologizing.

“I know Carlisle. You just made it sound so real. But that’s not the part I’m
interested in. You…” I heard the shower stop and I interrupted her. I knew what
she was going to say but Kira was almost finished. I wanted to have this
conversation along with Katelyn. I went to my desk phone and called the family
driver to take Kira home and I told the house assistant to escort her to the limo in
case she was scared. When she came out of the bathroom all dressed I told her,

“Kira, this is Phil, he is going to escort you to the limo downstairs that’s
going to take you home. Just tell him where to go.”

“I’ll see you later Kira, I need to talk to Carlisle.” Katelyn said.

“Bye, I think I need to take a nap. My shock just wore off and I’m
exhausted.” Kira responded and she went with Phil.

None of my assistants knew who I really was or what I really do. They may
not even be the slightest bit of suspicious. Nor were my parent. I’ve been doing
this for years. It would be a good thing in any other case to say that I was one of
the best of what I do. But murderers aren’t praised.

“Okay Katie, I did kill Paul.”

“You seem so okay with that, why?” she asked in horror.

“This is a very long story.”

“I have time.” she stated.

And now it was time to face Katelyn about it. And I knew she would hate
me in the end.
