Colbert said. “Sometimes, I have bridesthat come in without any idea of whatthey want. In that case, I have books andalbums full of pictures from what wehave done over the last 30 years. I justtry to work with them to get exactly whatthey want.”As prices go, Colbert said mostbakeries charge by the serving. Colbertcharges $2.20 per slice and said hercakes typically cost between $180 and$350.For brides on a tight budget, manyoptions are available to cut the cost of acake.Alexandra Beard, cake decorator forAngola’s Heavenly Breads & Sweets, said she could design a “fake cake” thatcan dramatically reduce cost.“It is a tiered cake, but it is madeout of Styrofoam and looks like areal cake,” Beard said. “Then youhave sheet cakes on the side that youserve to guests.Another way to save money is to havea main wedding cake for the weddingparty and sheet cakes for the rest of theguests.“A sheet cake is going to cost lessthan the main cake, and that can be agood option especially in largeweddings,” Colbert said. “And if moneyis not a concern, go with the biggest andbest center cake.”The weddingcupcake hasbecome a populartrend the pastcoupleof years, according to Colbert and Beard. The cupcakes usually are placed on amulti-tiered stand, or tree, and served toguests. The cupcakes also can be pairedwith a main cake that is served to thewedding party.“We really just try to do what thebride wants,” Beard said. “I try to helpthe bride’s dream cake come alive.”
