Why teaching writing?


-writing difficult
-most students are least proficient in
-Malaysian’s citizen’s life used for writing in English in the school
period
-It is necessary to make writing attractive not because of any
future use but because it satisfies some present need (writing
assignments)
- Writing tasks e.g writing letters, short reports etc should be
integrated with learning in other skill areas so that it is useful and
to the learner
- Teachers needs to create writing tasks that engage the student
as an individual
The role and the important
that writing can play in the
ESL/FL classroom:
• Consolidating language
• Maintaining motivation
• Record of what has been learnt orally
• Realistic
• Convenient means for testing large number of
students
The aims of the writing programme in Malaysian schools

The objectives of teaching writing:


• Four points are emphasized
• Step by step instruction;
• Provision of models
• The need to teach language (grammar and
vocabulary)
• Focus on the various stages to the writing
process
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION
• At the level of the school

for decision making in the process
