Glaser GOVERNOR Director of State Operations MEMORANDUM Joseph D’ Amico, Superintendent, NYS Police Joseph Rabito, Executive Deputy Commissioner, NYS OGS FROM: — Howard one of State Operations SUBJECT: High Volume Citizen/Visitor Days —New Procedures for Capitol DATE: March 7, 2011 _ In an effort to ensure access to the Capitol and the Legislative Office Building for citizens and visitors and to address the issues related (o large numbers of visitors on high volume days during the legislative session, the following procedures will be put in place: . ‘Beginning Tuesday, March 8, NYS Police and OGS will coordinate to deploy a fourth (4) screening lane at the primary screening station in the North Concourse, including X- Ray/Magnetometer equipment to be staffed by NYS Police. ‘The enhanced screening capacity will be putin place on an as needed basis for anticipated high volume visitation days. © Commencing this week, OGS and NYS Police will conduct a weekly meeting with OGS Plaza Operations and events staff to provide and coordinate details and information relative to Plaza and Capitol operations, special events and visitor management. ‘© GS will prepare a weekly report that will gether, cross-reference and provide information from the following as it relates to high volume visitor days, This report will include the coordination of information from NYS Police, OGS Plaza Operations, OGS Special Events, Albany Police Department, Capital District Transportation Authority, and OGS Parking Management, ‘These steps will allow the NYS Police and OGS to respond flexibly to ensure an open and safe Capitol for those visiting, conducting business or expressing their opinion, Please maintain an on-going evaluation of the staffing needs as information is gathered and of anticipated action that may need to be taken.
