I have been suffering from diabetes for 6 years. Diabetes had caused me insomnia and pain.
My legs also ached due to nerve cramps. Although I had consulted many doctors, the pain
remained. Then a sore developed on my big toe. It turned gangrenous and started to decay
and the condition got worse day by day. The doctor advised me to have the toe amputated in
order to stop the infection from spreading to the entire leg. However, my friend told me that

It was the most unforgettable incident in my life. My brother called me from another city on 5
May 1998 to inform me that my mother had just had one leg amputated and that she might
have to undergo a second operation to have the other leg amputated as well. I immediately
called friends in my village to see whether anyone could help, including someone who had

I decided to bring my mother to see my friend's sponsor and I rushed back from the city I
lived in to the city where my mother lived, to fetch her. The doctors advised me against this,
saying that my mother had been suffering from diabetes for 16 years and there is no cure for
her leg which was already rotting away. According to the doctors, the only solution was to
have the leg amputated. As the doctors could offer no other solution besides amputation, and
I refused to give up on any little hope the there might be, I went ahead and brought my
mother back to seek my friend's sponsor's help.
