What is E-Commerce
• To provide legal recognition for transaction
carried out by means of electronic data
interchange and other means of electronic
communication, commonly referred to as
“electronic commerce”.
• It involves the use of alternatives to paper
based methods of communication and storage
of information.

• We in India also have had a vision to
become the 12th nation in the world to enact
a Cyberlaw. We have enacted the
Information Technology Act, 2000
THE IT ACT, 2000 –OBJECTIVES

• To provide legal recognition for transactions:-


• Carried out by means of electronic data
interchange, and Other means of electronic
communication, commonly referred to as
"electronic commerce", involving the use of
alternatives to paper-based methods of
communication and storage of information,
 to give legal recognition to digital signature for authentication of
any information or which require authentication under any law.

• To facilitate electronic storage or data.


• To facilitate and give legal sanction to
electronic fund transfer between banks and
financial institutions.
• To facilitate electronic filling of documents
with government departments.
Digital signature:
• Digital signature means authentication of any
electronic record by a subscriber by means of
an electronic method or procedure(sec.2).
• Any subscriber may authenticate an electronic
record by affixing his digital signature(sec.3)
 Affixing digital signature:
 Asymmetric crypto system
 Hash function
 Public key
 Private key
 Creation of digital signature.

• Verification of digital signature.


• Digital signature certification.

• Duties of subscriber:
1.Generating key pairs
2.Secure digital signature.
3.On acceptance of digital signature certificate.
4.control of private keys
Electronic Governance
• Legal requirements of any information or any
other matter being in writing or in the
typewritten or printed form, shall be deemed
to have been satisfied if such information or
matter.

or send in an electronic form or computer
generated micro fiche(sec.2)
