Estuvieron aqui reportando tna historia en la reaccién al correo electrénico que fue leido en el pleno del Senado de Arizona que hizo Comentarios despectivos sobre los estudiantes y la escuela. A continuacién se muestra una declaracién de la reaccién de nuestro Distrito. El Distrito Escolar de Educacién Primaria continnd su investigacién para determinar si Tony Hill, el profesor suplente, cuyo mensaje fue leido en el pleno del Senado de Arizona, trabajé en las escuelas de GESD. Esa investigacién revelé que el Sr. Hill ha trabajado nueve dias como maestro sustituto en nuestro Distrito. El Sr. Fil no es uno de Jos suplentes regulares de GESD, por lo que su nombre no aparecié cuando se buscé en e] banco de datos de los empleados del Distrito, y es por ello que nuestras declaraciones a los medios de comunicacién reflejaron este hecho. Sin embargo, nosotros confirmamos ayer que el Sr. Hill trabaja para “Teachers On Call”, un Servicio de colocacién de maestros suplentes utilizado por el Distrito cuando nuestros maestros suplentes regulares no estan disponibles para satisfacer las necesidades del Distrito en cuanto a la ensefianza por parte lle maestros suplentes. EI Sr. Hill ha trabajado como suplente en GESD durante nueve dias desde el inicio del afio escolar 2010-11 en tres escuelas diferentes. De las nueve asignaciones, s6lo dos fueron con estudiantes de octavo grado: el 9 de marzo cuando fue suplente de una maestra de arte en la Escuela Intermedia Challenger, y el 8 de marzo, cuando fue suplente de un maestro de lectura,escrtura y estudios sociales del octavo grado en la Escuela Primaria Harold W. Smith. En base en la investigacién actual del Distrito, que incluye entrevistas con los estudiantes y el maestro a quien suplio el Sr Fill el Distrito cree que las dectaraciones hechas por el Sr. Hill, en lo que respecta a nuestros estudiantes y la cscusla no eran exactas, Los estudiantes que fueron entrevistados no recuerdan haber hecho o escuchado cualquiera de las declaraciones encendidas que se les atribuyen por parte del Sr. Hill, y los estudiantes también dijeron que estaban de pie para el Juramento de Lealtad a la Bandera que Recitan Diariamente. La investigaci6n del Distrito confirmé que los estudiantes se les pidi6 que escriban cartas al Senador Estatal Steve Gallardo. Después de ver un video de un segmento de noticias presentandole a él y al comentarista Lou Dobbs, a los estudiantes se les pidié escribir una carta en la cual tomaran una posicién a favor o en contra de las declaraciones hechas por el senador Gallardo, El objetivo de la asignacién era escribir una carta que utilizara la raz6n para convencer al Senador para cambiar su posicién, o que utilizara la raz6n para apoyar su posicién. Este tipo de asignacién no es inusval en este nivel de grado, y esté en conformidad con el plan de estudios del Distrito y Jas normas académicas estatales. El Distrito continuara investigando este asunto, pero no cree que el correo electrénico del Sr. Hill refleja fielmente la conducta de los estudiantes y el personal de la Escuela Primaria Harold W. They were here reporting on a story in reaction to email that was read on the floor of the Arizona Senate that made disparaging remarks about our students and school. Below is a statement from our District in reaction ‘The Glendale Elementary School District continued its investigation to determine if Tony Hill, the substitute teacher whose email was read on the floor of the Arizona Senate, worked in GESD schools. That investigation revealed that Mr. Hill has worked nine days as a substitute teacher in our District. ‘Mr. Hill is not one of GESD’s regular substitutes, which is why his name did not appear when the District's employee data banks were searched, and why our statements to the media reflected that fact. However, we confirmed yesterday that Mr. Hill works for Teachers On Call, a substitute teacher placement service used by the Distriet when our regular substitute teachers are not available to fill the District's substitute teaching needs Mr. Hill has worked as a substitute in GESD for nine days since the start of the 2010-11 school year at three different schools. Of those nine assignments, only two were with eighth graders: on March 9 when he substituted for ‘an art teacher at Challenger Middle School, and on March 8 when he substituted for an eighth grade reading, writing and social studies teacher at Harold W. Smith Elementary School. Based on the District’s current investigation, which includes interviews with students and the teacher for whom Mr. Hill was a substitute, the District believes that the statements made by Mr. Hill in regard to our students and school were not accurate, Students who were interviewed did not recall making or hearing any of the inflammatory statements attributed to them by Mr. Hill, and students also said they stood for the daily recital of the Pledge of Allegiance. ‘The District's investigation did confirm that students were asked to write letters to State Sen. Steve Gallardo. After watching a video of a news segment featuring him and commentator Lou Dobbs, students were asked to write a letter in which they took a position either for or against statements made by Sen. Gallardo. The goal of the assignment was to write a letter that used reason to convince the Senator to change his position, or that used reason to support his position. This type of assignment is not unusual at this grade level, and conforms with both District curriculum and state educational standards. ‘The District will continue to investigate this matter, but does not believe that Mr. Hill’s email accurately reflects the conduct of the students and staff of Harold W.
