Explanation: Each underlined part could be a sentence by itself. The coordinating


conjunction so is used to join them into a single sentence.

2. It's important to put your goals in writing, but you must also be committed to achieving them.

3. An assignment notebook helps you stay organized, so you should consider using one.

4. You will be able to see better if you sit at the front of the classroom, and you will also be able to

3. The sun was shining. The weather was warm. I went to the beach.
4. Hannah looked for her lost earring. She found it under her bed.
5. Give me the broken vase. I'll fix it.
6. Yesterday was snowy and very cold. That didn't bother the children. They went
outside to play anyway.
7. Those are both electives. You can take photography. You can take sculpture.
8. We vacationed last year in Virginia Beach. We will go to Orlando this year.
9. Frank took out his fishing pole. He couldn't put bait on the hook. He didn't catch a

Identify the independent and subordinate clauses in the following sentences and determine
whether they are complex or compound-complex.
