Hero Honda Passion Pro Review

Posted by Deepak on November 14, 2009 | 49 comments

They say a dog is a man’s best friend, the reasons are numerous, they are reliable, less
demanding, loyal and obedient, if ever there was a strong contender for the number 2 spot,
nothing would fit the bill better than a 100cc from Hero Honda.
They have been in the country for the past two and a half decades, surpassing the sales figures of
all other companies by leaps and bounds and making as much money as a small country.
Creating a machine that is reliable on Indian conditions is not exactly the easiest of tasks, for
starters, it should be able to withstand really harsh weather, bad roads, overloads, rough driving
all with a few cuts and bruises. For the average man nothing did it like a Hero Honda, whether it
was to drop off his kids at school or to reach office on time through the gridlocked roadways, it
did it all at the least possible expense.

Over the years, Hero Honda has evolved from making basic 100cc motorcycles to more
performance oriented machines while maintaining its acclaimed reliability and quality standards.
New designs, new varieties have all been introduced to make sure that they stay on top of the
game. One of their latest offerings in the 100cc segment, which happens to be one of the most
popular in the country, is the new Passion Pro. Read on as we take it for a spin and tell you
everything about this highly successful machine.

Mr Bency happened to be a teacher at a Microsoft authorized education centre in Kerala, he

owned a 2006 Pulsar which he took great care of, eventually its performance and mileage
dropped to a point where he thought it was wise to sell it off and acquire something newer, He
travels about 30-40 Kms a day and wanted something that would deliver great mileage and was
long lasting. After a little bit of research on the newer 150cc bikes on the market, he felt that a
100cc would be better suited to his needs. He then headed to the Hero Honda showroom in the
area where they showed him the new Passion. A short test drive and he was satisfied and
determined to purchase the bike.
A few days later, it was in his garage, shiny and new. I managed to take it out for a spin to find
out what it is like
First Impressions: I learned to ride on a Hero Honda Splendor, considering the fact that the new
passion had just a newer, improved version of the same old engine, I did not expect too much.
The new look has spiced things of the bike and even though it’s the same basic design as the first
passion, I’m sure it will help in the sales aspect.

Hero Honda Passion Pro felt really light once I sat on it, the new switch gear did everything well
and the best new feature you would find though is the electric start which can be of a great
convenience. I rode it for a while around the city and then took it over to the highway for a little
bit of cruising.

Engine & Performance: This is one aspect where nothing really needs to be said, It features the
bulletproof, reliable, low maintenance, high efficiency engine that can be found on the 100cc
splendors, as you may know, it has set sales records in the country and has helped make Hero
Honda one of the biggest two wheeler manufacturers in the world, As most of you my already
know, spare parts are simply not a problem for this engine as its components are among the most
simple and basic ones that exist today. Having sold so many bikes in the past, expect the parts to
be available anywhere and also at a comparatively low cost.

Once Passion Pro is fired up, the familiar engine note comes into play, albeit a little more
refined. The gearbox is a closely spaced 4 speed unit with an all down shift pattern. It has to be
said that the box is in a league of its own in terms of refinement, you could literally shift to
fourth gear and back to neutral while standing still, this is one feat most modern bikes find hard
to accomplish. As you get going, the close spacing of the gearbox lets you know that it has been
tuned to be ridden, care free in the congested city areas we are all used to. You barely need to
shift back and forth and it pulls acceptably well in any gear. Ideal cruising speed is around 40-
60Km/h and though it is capable of hitting the 100Kmph mark, it feels much better down there.
The engine also sounds like it’s being thrashed at high RPMs, the sound is neither too sporty or
too comforting, it seems like the sound aspect was not paid much attention to by the folks over at
Hero Honda.

If you are wondering about the actual numbers, this bike produces 7.8Ps of power at 7500 RPM
and makes about 8Nm of torque at around 4500 RPM. These may not seem like a lot but
considering the fact that this is simply a no-nonsense commuter bike, its enough. Hero Honda
also claims a great mileage of about 65 to 75 kmpl.

Ride, Handling and Ergonomics: This is where it really comes into its element, as soon as you
sit on the Hero Honda Passion Pro, you feel it’s well cushioned seats, and as you ride along,
notice the neutral riding position which somehow balances the weight and manages not to stress
your arms or your back. The suspension feels slightly firm when riding alone, but when there is a
pillion on board, it becomes much softer and more comfortable, speaking of which, the pillion’s
seat is really wide and comfortable and is actually much better that some of the 150cc bikes on
the market. The bike can chew up bad roads really well while being stable and rigid.
It’s really easy to maneuver this thing around the cities because of its light weight and slightly
raised handlebar, but at higher speeds, the bike feels less confident. On the whole, it is great for
riding around bad roads and through cities with a pillion on board.

The brakes do a great job in stopping the machine, Hero Honda also offers a disc brake option, I
do think that the stock drum brakes do a good job by itself and offers the advantage of being able
to work well in wet conditions, go for the disc if you would be riding around fast or if you like
more feel and sharpness from the brakes

Design & Features: The Passion Pro has been given a new look with the choice of bright
colored paintjobs and graphics, the new look is a welcome change from the old age designs of
the earlier machines and though it’s basically the same basic shape, it manages to be different.

One feature found on earlier bikes is the glove box under the tank which can be opened by a key,
it has enough space to store a tool kit and a pair of gloves. The instrument cluster consists of just
the speedo and the fuel gauge, just the way it was on the first passion.

Stuff That’s Not So Cool

 It’s hard to point out something wrong with a great bike but there are a few things that I
felt that could have been improved,
 The design has been the same for a lot of years, the only improvements being a slightly
reshaped headlamp and a few shiny colours and graphics, apart from these changes, you
would not find anything that’s different in design from the earlier machines, I do think it
was time that Hero Honda gave it a completely new look.
 It’s also not very exciting, the engine sounds plain, the sitting position is just neutral, and
you would rarely even find a reason to take it to the workshop, all this makes it a bit
boring in my opinion, as the guys at Hero Honda would say, Fill it, Shut it, forget it. A
bike in this day and age needs to be a little more than that.

Our Verdict: Passion Pro costs about 51,000 Rs on the road in Kerala, So if you are looking for
a no nonsense, reliable, long lasting, acceptably good looking, comfortable, and efficient 100cc
bike, look no further.

Both Splendor and Passion are the same inside but in my opinion, Gentlemen with
families will choose Splendor+ and college dudes who are looking for a 100cc bike from
a reliable company will go for a Passion Pro.

Easy to Use
Better looks that the old splendor

Cost effective.

There is a start-up problem in most of the bikes.

The engine needs to be warmed when the engine is idle for more time. Not sure what the
issue is.

Also the average as promised is not met

I have done almost all experiments with my Passion pro. I found it good, But personally I
m not satisfy with:- 1. It don’t cross the speed of 95 Km/h. 2. Mileage is not more then 55
Km/l on highway, so u can guess what the mileage in city. 3. The fuel gauge shows
slightly up or down then the actual quantity of fuel, because of that u may encounter
mental elusion about mileage.

24 Manikandan July 13, 2010 at 8:17 pm

Passion pro is the worst bike in hero honda .1)seating comfortable is not there for rider
2)no pick up 3)poor mileage 4)woobling in high ways .so people who want to buy this
passion my personal openion is better you people purchase honda shine with same price

meter APDV Engine for more power great back light. My bike is black & red color good
graphics. I am riding about 400 km in one week great mileage this bike gives me 55/liter
and bike comfort label too high. so friend I will suggest you If you plan buy a new bike

Hero Honda Glamour 125cc Review
Posted by Deepak on September 11, 2008 | 79 comments

Hero Honda Glamour is a perfect blend between the higher end so called sporty bikes and lower
end 100cc bikes. Today I had the Glamour 125cc delivered to my home for a test drive.

Hero Honda Glamour 125cc

Styling: The bike stands out with its unique design in the hood. Aerodynamically shaped air
pockets on both sides of the head lamp adds to the head turning effect of the bike.
With sporty stickering on the sides and optimum overall size of the body, the bike will be
appealing to majority of the Indian audience. The grooves in the tank are perfectly blended even
for a 6 foot tall man to accommodate his knees with comfort. The size of the tank is not too big
nor too small. Perfect. The fuel switch is significantly different than other bikes, big and easy to
handle.
The sides of the tails looks like it is adopted from former Ambition 135. The tail lamps are also
perfectly designed, not too aggressive nor too plain.
Performance: The bike has a 4-speed gear system, all in one way. Great for city riding. If you
are finding it difficult for changing the gears in one down, four up system, you would love
Glamour. The 125cc engine gives a very good job of giving a smooth ride at higher speeds. This
is primarily because of the positioning of the engine. Note that unlike other bikes, the piston in
the engine moves back and forth instead of up and down. So it is natural that the vibration is
reduced in this case.

Before talking about performance I shouldn’t hide the fact that many users have reported poor
mileage for Hero Honda Glamour. On an average the mileage of the bike is 45 – 50 kmpl. But
after 3 months of regular servicing, you should get more than 50 kmpl for sure. Some have
reported 60kmpl constant mileage.
The dash board has three dials as shown above. The most viewed speedometer is placed at the
center prominently which I appreciate. No digital display! May be in the next version of
Glamour we can expect one. Cute fuel indicator and other leds.

Verdict: If you are buying a 125cc bike, you most probably will upgrade it after a few years of
use. So before you buy, don’t just think about the performance, but consider the give away
aspect. Hero Honda and Honda bikes have better resale value than Bajaj and TVS. The engines
are more durable and gives good performance even after years of use.

Mr.Ganesh who owns a glamour says “Hi! I have been using Hero Honda Glamour for the past
1.5 years and  travelled arround 25000 Km. But still I am feeling as a new bike. Because the
bike has great pick up, smoothness, good looks and control on any speed up to 100. Fuel
consumption is good. It is depends upon our driving. I am totally satisfied with this bike.”

Pros: Looks, Smoothness, Quality

Cons: Varying mileage across different units

Hero Honda Glamour Specifications:

Max torque: 1.05kgm at 4000rpm

Hero Honda should be given a prize for the way it names its bikes, glamour, passion and
all that jazz.

hai guys , the passion pro is a number one bike,,,,, just kidding guys, its like a playing
bike, in which small childrens will play in the childhood, this hero honda company is
giving a feed back to all youths to childhood and even all uncles to childhood wah wah
what a bike what a bike, playing bike , think twice before buying this types of bikes,
better go to bajaj company its a good product from past 20 years it s in a good position,
and maintaince free, money saved from a pocket, else, i prefer bajaj bikes thank u, better
see the roads once, which company bikes a running popularly , even after twenty years
too bajaj scooter s and bajaj autos , bajaj bikes are popular and still popular , but one
thing to accept is until 2002 the hero honda splendar was good, now its a dummy piece, a
broken glassssss ……. hamaaara bajaaaaaaj

Hi David,

I will advise you to go for HH Bikes.

And in the list i will advise you to go for HH Glamour.
I bought it 15 days back and i am comfortable with this bike.
Currently its giving 62-65 KMPL as i am going by 40-50 Speed.
Have to see its milage after first service and of 50-70 Speed.
Fo look/Performance/Milage i will advise u to go for Glamour.Because after 4/5 years
also it will give u surely 50 KMPL(previous users of Glamour Told me and i confirmed
also… i asked seniour machanics also regarding this milage..After doing long analasis i
bought this bike).

Hi, recently i hane a red hunk which is a sport bike with incridable pick ups. But I ride
glamour regularly , as its my best friend’s byke.

As a result I can compare both.

Defenitly hunk is a better choice, but when it coms 2 fuel matters , glamor stands
fist.Glamor gives a a smooth riding experience. Suspension is good (cunt say best).

A problem I faced is that , I , riding glamour at only 55 like that speed. Suddenly need a
dead stop, but I skeet on the road, & i was going 2 hit a truck back. Although I able 2 stop
it safely, it was a bad experience, like a hart attack 2 me.

I think brake , tire grip , is not good. Dude if u lov 2 sport with bykes , pl change the rear
tyres, and fit a redial tire.

Every bike has positive & negatives , so don’t get upset if u r planning 2 buy this bike, as
u will not ever get a bike with all positives , & no drawbacks. Even DUCATY also not a
100% positive bike……..

Glamour cons:
1.Glamour is a fat bike.
2.Weighs at about 130kg.
3.Braking System is poor.
4.Initial Pickup is poor.
5.Vibrates Beyond 72+Kmph

Pros:
Nothing

In the coming years, Hero Honda reputation will go down. They can’t compete with the
Guys who have their own technology. Hero Honda’s Technology is rented from
HONDA.They will not produce great bikes furthur with their own technology.

Hi Ramana,

have you ever drive a Glamour bike …..

If you have drive then you will not have to say its vibrating beyond 72kmph…
I usually goes by speed 70-75 but have not find any vibration…
only I observed is if I go by 70-80 speed the milage is decreasing….

I am getting nearly 58-60 KMPL when i used to go by 50-55 Speed and 47-53 while I
goes by speed 75-80.

Dear all,

I bought my Herohonda Glamour bike 3years back. How can i say about the mileage and
performance. Its really good. Its havine very good pick up. As one of our user said, its
mileage is 80-83 KMPL (unbeleivable) , if you drive in 40 – 45 KMPH speed. If you
drive glamour, you can able feel the differenec from aother 125 cc bikes. my bike’s age is
3 years now. But if you see my bike, it looks like a new bike due to very good quality of
colour and Graphics in body. Special thing is noice less bike. Brake is good. Even i drive
in 80-90 KMPH. But the mileage will be around 50KMPl. No bike will give this much of
performance and mileage with 125 CC. I hope this brief will clarify you those who are all
planned to buy 125 cc bike. Thanks for giving oppurtunity to give feedback about
Glamour bike.

Dear Friend,
I bought my Glamour bike 3 years back. I am fully satisfied with this bike. Still i am
getting 80+ KMPL while driving 40-45 KMPH. Its really unbelievable, but it is true.
Some of them are complaining against brake system. I found it is good if i ride in
90KMPH also. Colour and graphics are very good. After 3.5 years it looks like a new
bike because of quality of colour and graphics on body. I drive for 30 KMS on a daily
basis. After 3.5 years i didn’t find any back pain. Even it is very comfortable sitting
position to drive. I think there is no other words to say about this bike. I could say it
100% wonderful bike.

Hero Honda Refreshes Super Splendor

Posted by Deepak on September 5, 2010 | 19 comments

In typical Hero Honda ‘ishtyle’, India’s largest manufacturer has revamped their 125cc offering,
Super Splendor with brand new and refreshed graphics along with a few cosmetic upgrades.
Super Splendor is one of the very few models from the company which did not click in the
market to the tune Hero Honda would have liked probably.
Ever since its launch, Super Splendor has been a very moderate performer majorly attributed to
the USP-less demeanor it possesses. To try and spell a new round of fresh air without wasting
much money and resources, Hero Honda has done what it does regularly with fair conviction!

According to what we can identify from the pics posted on the company’s official website (yes,
it’s uploaded), the bike has gone the following changes:

 NEW GRAPHICS: A new set of vibrant graphics ensure that the fresh feel on the bike is
reloaded.
 NEW FRONT FAIRING: The front bikini fairing has gone a pretty weird change; it has
been elongated with a probable hollow ‘smiling’ shape: Looks a little out of place.
 All BLACK THEME: The bike now wears the all black theme with the engine, front
fork and tyres painted black.
 CHANGED GLOVE BOX: A small horizontal chrome dash has been placed across the
tool box over the engine.
 REDESIGNED VISOR: Front visor has also been redesigned to complement the new
theme.
 CHANGED REAR: The bike’s rear tail light has been altered slightly to make it curvier.
 METER CONSOLE: Meter console has been given a fresh treatment. It consists of a
huge speedometer (odometer + tripmeter) which takes the center stage, separate smaller
pods for fuel indicator and tell-tale lights.
 NEW ALLOY WHEELS: The bike now adorns new set of alloy wheels as well.
 PRICE: The new bike is priced at Rs 45,950 ex showroom Delhi

Features:
 Super Splendor produces 9bhp (@ 7k rpm) of maximum power output along with a peak
torque of 10.35Nm (@ 4k rpm) from its 124.7cc 4 stroke air cooled ‘Quantum Core’
engine.
 The bike looks conservative but symbolizes an optimum mix of power and fuel efficiency
along with impeccable durability.
 The new version costs Rs 52,117 on Road Pune and is available for sale.
 The bike comes in a single variant with drum brakes and self start as standard.
 Super Splendor also comes with body colored Rear View Mirrors
 The bike is offered in 7 colored options: Candy Blazing Red, Vibrant Blue, Cloud Silver,
Black with Flery Red, Black with Electric Purple, Graphite Black, and Heavy Grey.
Amongst these Black with Flery Red looks the most striking which also comes with a red
colored grab rail different from the regular black colored on other colors.
So how many of you like the new Super Splendor? For more information, visit Super Splendor
Official Website

Its not a splendor but a glamour variant. HH might had improved the power output to at
least 9.5bhp then it would have been more appealing. Any way its a dam good bargain
then the pathetic passion pro (7.8 bhp) both costs 55k but be ready to sacrifice mileage
upto min 5kmpl.

New Hero Honda Super splender is a very good bike. The bike is good or bad it depends
that how do you drive the vehicle. If you drive a bike carefully in initial stage definitely it
would give good performaNCE.Would like to mention the following things about SS.
1.Milege is very good.
2.Pickup is not so good .
3.Comfort lable also is very good.
4.Road grip is good.

Overall bike is good. I like everthing about this bike.Would suggest that If you expect
good milege from this bike always drive it in Economical range(30 to 50) in initial stage.
Reduce your pickup automaticall Milege would be increased.

I think it’s a great move from herohonda. Super splendor was one of the least selling bike
from herohonda. It’s look better than the previous one. It is missing the disc brake option
which was in the previous one. It is more comfortable than the old one. The bigger utility
box is helpful to keep your documents safely, Spedomeater is coated with chrome.
It gives more than 70KMPL which is very good in these days when we have to pay
around Rs.60/L.
And the good thing is that It is one of the most value for money bike in India for a
common man at 52,000 on road price.
with this herohonda offer 3years/40,000KM. and good resale value of herohonda.
