DistributionFROM:S/Associate Administrator for Space ScienceSUBJECT:Hubble Space Telescope First Servicing MissionPrelaunch Mission Operation ReportThe first mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), designatedSTS-61 and using Orbiter Endeavour, will be launched during a window thatbegins on December 1, 1993. The purpose of this mission is to restore the SpaceTelescope’s scientific and engineering capabilities through servicing by astronautsduring Extra Vehicular Activities (EVA). It will also verify that satellite on-orbitservicing is a feasible method of achieving Hubble’s 15year lifetime.The enclosed Mission Operation Report: (a) describes the objectives of this firstservicing mission; (b) describes the sequence of mission activities that will befollowed to service, deploy, and operationally verify the HST; (c) outlines theground operations elements required to support this mission; and (d) providessummary cost information for the HST program to date and of the First ServcingMission in particular.
