My Ideal Vacation SpotErie 1 BOCES

A lesson introducing teachers to their iPad

What is your ideal vacation spot?


Using the map on your iPad zoom
In to your favorite vacation place
1. Type the address or name of the
place (Waikiki Beach) in the search
bar at the top.

2. To get a satellite view, pull up from


the corner of the map and select
Satellite.

3. Use your fingers in pinching and


pinch out movements to zoom in
and out of the location.

4. Take a
picture of the location on the map.

5. Click the "power button" and the


"home button" simultaneously to take a
snap shot.
6. The picture will automatically save in
your photos app
7. Click on the photos app to find your
picture

Use the Internet to research


your place
1. Use Google search to locate your destination's information website.

2. Click on the links to find the site you want.

3. Make that site a bookmark

4. Make that site a button on your home screen. Congratulations you


just made an app.

Hold finger down on image


Saving more pictures until you get the option to
"Save Image" save that
1. Using Google Images to find 5 to 6 more images. image.

1. Image 1: your food

2. Image 2: an activity you will do

3. Image 3: a hotel or cabin you will stay in

4. Image 4: anything else about your vacation

5. Click on the "photos app" to view your new


photos. Click the "slideshow" button to view a quick movie about
your vacation

Using the Notes App and Photo

1. Click on the "Notes App"

2. Click the plus button on the corner


to create a new note

3. Type an ending to your presentation.


Take a picture of your note and it will
save your note in the "photo gallery"

4. Now view the slideshow in your


photo gallery, change transitions.

Collaborate with two iPads to ask about


someone else's trip
1. Open the "draw" app. This is a free app in the iTunes store.

2. Hit the connect button and look for an ipad to connect to.

3. You will not know what iPad we connect to. If you get a message asking you
to connect. Please accept it.

4. Select a color and ask a


question to then other iPad,
"where are you going for your
dream vacation."

5. If a question appears on your


device answer back and draw a
picture of any thing you might see
on your vacation

6. Take a picture of the screen to


save it in your Phot Gallery

Create a Comic Strip


1. Open the app "Strip Designer" (2.99 in the app
store)

2. Select "my strips" and then "new strips" to select


the design template you want.

3. Click "add photo" in the cell of the comic and


select a photo from the gallery for your comic.

4. Adjust the size of the photo. And add text.

5. Finish creating the comic and click the "share


button" when done. It will not allow you to
email, so take a picture of the comic.

Handing in Your Work


We will be using the app "dropbox" it is a cloud
storage service. You would have to create an account
(ex: miller class ) that you can collect work from your
students and hand work to them. You get 2 gb of free
storage. You can also check your "dropbox" from any
Internet connection.

1. Click the "Dropbox" app, select the "Home" button.

2. Select "My Dropbox" and the folder you want. (instructor


will tell you)

3. Select the "Camera" icon, then select the "existing photos


or videos " to put the I ages in the dropbox

4. You might see other peoples' work loading into the folder.

5. The teacher will automatically receive the files.

Make a Movie/Video Podcast About


Your Destination
We will use the app "Sonic Pics" to create our movie. There
are two versions, the lite version is free but the full version
has more features. They are both available in the app store.

1. Click the "+" symbol in the upper left hand


corner to create a new movie.

2. Title your presentation "My Dream Vacation"

3. Click the "add" button and select all of the


pictures you saved earlier.

4. After you
selected
your
images
click the
done
button.

5. Click the "record " button to record


your show.

6. Slide the pictures you selected with


your finger until you get the first one.

7. When you select the record button it


will record your voice. Slide the images to the right as you record.

8. Save the work when you are done.
