Using SAP EarlyWatch Alert 


Purpose

This process identifies potential problems early, avoids bottlenecks and monitors the
performance of your systems. SAP EarlyWatch Alert monitors your most important business
processes and systems.

The SAP EarlyWatch Alert in the SAP Solution Manager is a service provided by SAP.

Prerequisites

You have:

        set up RFC connections between your satellite systems and the SAP Solution Manager
system, and an RFC connection between the SAP Solution Manager and the SAP Service
Marketplace.

        checked the availability of the required tools for the SAP service session (ST-A/PI add-on),
with the reports RTCCTOOL.

        activated Alert Monitoring for all SAP satellite systems, and the central SAP Solution
Manager of your solution, and set up the Automatic Session Manager (ASM) in the Service Data
Control Center (SDCC) of your satellite systems (SAP note 91488).

        set up your systems in a solution landscape in the SAP Solution Manager.

Process Flow

...

       1.      You configure the SAP EarlyWatch Alert scheduling in the SAP Solution Manager.

You have:

scheduled the service sessions for your solution, in the SAP Solution Manager Solution
       
Directory

The default value is Mondays. You should retain this value.


activated or deactivated the download of SAP EarlyWatch Alert data from the SAP Solution
       
Data Manager for your solution systems.

       2.      You have activated the SAP EarlyWatch Alert monitoring for your solution systems.

       3.      Data collectors in the satellite systems aggregate analysis-relevant system and performance data
weekly.

       4.      The system downloads this data to the SAP Solution Manager with the SAP Solution Data
Manager (SDCCN).

       5.      The job SM:EXEC SERVICES triggers the processing of the data in a system session.

       6.      Further processing is in accordance with the following rules, which SAP has specified in the
system:

        Red status: Critical/Error

                                        i.       Analyze the report. The SAP Solution Manager system sends the data to SAP.

                                      ii.       SAP Support analyzes the problems and contacts you if necessary, to discuss further action.

                                     iii.       If you consider the alert to be critical, discuss further action with SAP.

                                     iv.       Take the agreed action.

        Yellow status: Critical/Warning

                                        i.       Analyze the report.

        Gray status: Status unknown

                                        i.       Check why the system status could not be determined.

        Green status: No error

The system sends initial and monthly sessions to SAP via the SAP Service Marketplace,
regardless of the analysis of the weekly SAP EarlyWatch Alert reports.
 

 Activating/Deactivating SAP Solution Manager


Monitoring 
Use

This function activates or deactivates alerts for SAP EarlyWatch Alert, Service Level Reporting
and SAP Solution Manager jobs, for your solutions. The SAP Solution Manager system creates
predefined monitoring objects for each solution in the SAP Solution Manager CCMS
(transaction: RZ20), in the context SolMan.

You should activate/deactivate SAP EarlyWatch Alert monitoring, or activate/deactivate again


after a CCMS upgrade or changes to the solution, in the following cases. You have:

        removed a system from your solution

        activated/deactivated SAP EarlyWatch Alert download for some systems

        implemented a new Basis Support Package with new CCMS functionality

Prerequisites

You have:

        Created solutions

        activated automatic SAP EarlyWatch Alert data download, in the solution settings for SAP
systems in your solution

Features

The Solution Manager system sends the following information to the SAP Solution Manager
CCMS:

        the SAP EarlyWatch Alert results

        the Service Level Report session results


        messages about the download of SAP EarlyWatch Alert data from the Service Data Control
Centre (transaction SDCCN)

        SAP Solution Manager job status information

Activities

...

       1.      Choose the transaction SOLUTION_MANAGER.

       2.      Choose Edit  Solution Manager Monitoring.

You go to the SAP List Viewer screen.

       3.      Select the solution to activate/deactivate.

       4.      Choose Activate or Deactivate.

         The Systems with EWA column shows the systems for which you have activated
data download in the Solution Directory, in the solution attributes.

         The All Systems column shows the systems in your solution.

       5.      See the activation/deactivation Log.

 Assign Solution Attributes 


Use

You want to assign attributes to your solution.

Prerequisites
You have:

        created a solutionsapurl_link_0001_0001_0005

        assigned Solution Directory rolesnk_0001_0002_0005 to users

Procedures

...

       1.      Choose the transaction SOLUTION_MANAGER.

       2.      Choose the Solution Landscape tab in the Operations Setup area.

       3.      Choose the Solution Settings link.

You go to the Solution Directory.

Alternatively, you can also select a solution from the Overview of active solutions and go to the
Solution Directory.

       4.      Select your solution.

       5.      You can also enter contact person data in the Contact Person tab.

          Proceed as follows:

                                        i.       Choose Add Contact Person.

                                      ii.       Enter the required data.

                                     iii.       Save your entries.

          The contact data appears in the Solution Monitoring sessions, e.g. in Set-Up Business
Process Monitoringapurl_link_0001_0004_0005.

       6.      Specify the following settings for your solution, in the Solution Settings tab:

        Day of SAP EarlyWatch Alert data download


Choose Setup EWA, to:

          deactivate automatic data download


          not send the EWAs to SAP

        Monitoring graphic refresh period

        Administration information

        Knowledge Warehouse Information

You can only display the Knowledge Warehouse information.

        Document copy options

          Copy options


          Select document types

        History

          Activate or deactivate

        Central systems for test cases

If you flag a central system as obligatory, you no longer need to assign logical components for
the business scenarios, to the test cases, in the Test Cases tab.

       7.      Save your entries.
