Based upon the recently conducted survey on the condition of the event management industry in
Macedonia 2010, the specialized agency for organization and planning of events, Momenti,
published a quarterly survey on this theme.

This way we can see the detailed picture for the development of this developed industry in the
world, but with not enough awareness in our environment.

The survey refers to events organized in the period from January 1st until March 31st, 2011. Sources
for the event information are: MIA (Macedonian Information Agency), official internet pages of
public institutions, NGO·s, chambers and companies, as well as invitations received directly by
event organizers.

Information gained from the survey is:

-? In which industry most events were organized
-? Who organizes events most often
-? Which locations are most common for event organization
-? Which cities organize events most frequently
-? Which day is most convenient for event organization
-? In which part of the day most events are organized

This quarterly survey includes comparison of the condition of the industry in the same quarter last
year. The main goal is to determine whether there is improvement, and whether the main
influencer for decreased number of events, the global economic crisis, is over.

In the first quarter of this year occurred total of 552 events. Most events were organized in March.
Compared to 2010, there is noticeable three times increase of the number of events. The increase
has the biggest proportion in February this year. Last year there were only 40 events organized in
this month, and this year 233 events.

By event type, there is not a big change in trends, most organized events are press conferences.
Their share is 21% of the total number of organized events in this quarter. Same as last year second
most organized events are promotions, with 20% of total number. There is a noticeable decrease in
organization of conferences, as a type which has been most practiced by now. The trend is an
affirmation once again that the conferences will be avoided as a type, in favor of forums, debates,
round tables and similar. Concerning event type, we can conclude that there are no noticeable
changes from last year condition.

The study shows that for this quarter there is a significant increase in the number of cultural
events, 30% from the total number. It is considered that the cultural events are the new business
events. Even the companies while making the choice for location of their events choose cultural
centers, in order to be in trend with the industry movements. After culture, the second most
represented industry is economy, with 21%. There is a significant decrease in the number of
humanitarian events.

Most common event organizers in this quarter, as last year, are state institutions. Although,
compared to 2010, there is increased presence of companies as event organizers. In the first three
months of last year only 29 companies organized events, while in the first three months of this year
the number goes to 92 companies. This is a great indicator for further progress of the industry in
the country.

Concerning event location, most events in the first quarter of 2011 were organized in conference
rooms, 113. Compared to the same quarter last year, we can conclude that the same number of
events occur in company/organization premises, as out of them, precisely most common choice are
conference rooms. As previously mentioned, there is significant increase of number of events
organized in cultural centers, 20% of the total number of events.
The conference room of the Economic Chamber of Macedonia has a share of 33% of the total
number of events organized in conference rooms. In the same period last year, on this location was
organized only one event.

There is a continuation in the last year·s trend of event organization in their own premises, with a
difference that this year, there are more events organized in private premises in comparison to
public. There is an obvious conclusion that companies are looking for a way to organize an event
and save money at the same time, at least for event location.
The capital city of the Republic of Macedonia, Skopje, has an enormous share of 85% of events in
the country in this quarter. After Skopje, most events occur in Bitola. Compared to last year, when
events were happening in the usual cities, this year there is an increase of the number of events
organized in smaller cities such as Demir Kapija, Kochani, Kavadarci, cities that weren·t even
mentioned on the list last year.

From the survey, recommended time for event organization is in the morning, the same as last
year. In comparison to the same period last year, there is a significant increase in events organized
in the evening. In the first quarter last year were organized only 26 evening events, while this year
in the first quarter were organized 127 evening events.
General assumption is that the most appropriate day for event organization is Wednesday.
According to the survey, most events were organized in Thursday, 23%, followed by Friday (19%),
Tuesday (18%) and Monday (17%). From the information gained by the survey, least appropriate
work day for event organization is Wednesday.
