Home Language

The language my family usually uses at home is loud. I live in a household with my

mother, step father, two stepbrothers, and three whole brothers, along with my dog. There is

always a lot of commotion with kids running around, the dog barking, usually mom talking on

the phone, and who knows what else.

When we talk it is usually about random stuff. Because of the fact that we are usually

doing different things, and people are usually running around it seems that we don’t talk much.

During the day this is true, but at night the house usually calms down a lot. There are a lot of

nights when my mom, my brothers, and I will just relax and watch TV together, or play a game,

or even just sit and talk. There are also some times that we sit and talk with the whole family,

including my step dad and his kids, although this is not as common it still happens.

The conversations that usually happen in my house are normally pretty informal. Part of

this is because we are always doing different things from one another, but it is also because there

are big age differences within my house and that makes it a little harder to have formal

conversations with one another. With this being said, we still do have formal conversations.

Every family has times when they all have to sit down and talk about important issues or topics,

and when that time comes we all sit down and talk formally. Again, with the big age differences

usually one of my little brothers end up getting too bored talking and then it’s back to just the

older kids and the parents talking.

The conversations that I have at home with my family are usually a lot different than the

conversations that I have when I am out and about with my friends. Usually when I am with my

friends we have a lot of conversations. We talk about anything and everything, from songs to

stories, and laughter to sadness. When we are together we are normally always talking about

something no matter what is going on or what we are doing at the time. Also my friends and I

have both formal and informal conversations. We talk about stuff that is important such as

college decisions and family issues, and we talk about funny stuff like remembering old stories

and telling jokes.

Although conversation at home is much different from the conversations that I

have with my friends both are very important and mean a lot. Friends and family to me are the

two most important things in the world and without them life would be much harder than it is.
