Connecting Rainbows Bluntly Reminds Huntley of Dr.

King’s Dream

Dreamless • The  Civil  Rights  Movement  of  the

1960’s  grew  because  of  gay  activists
such  as  Bayard  Rustin,  who
organized  the  1963  March  on
Washington.
• Mr.  Rustin  was  also  an  adviser  to  the
Rev.  Martin  Luther  King,  Jr.,  on
peaceful  protests.
• Gay  freedom  fighters  had  to  hide  their
sexuality  and  were  marginalized.
• Each  time  that  Sen.  Shirley  Huntley
votes  no  on  marriage  equality,  she  is
spitting  on  the  grave  of  pioneering
civil  rights  activists  such  as  Mr.  Rustin,
and  she  is  denying  others  a  chance  at

fulfilling  on  the  dream  of  equality.

Despite  having  marched  in  Selma,  Alabama,  with  Dr.  Martin  Luther  King,
Senator  Shirley  Huntley  continues  to  promote  injustice  and  prejudice
against  LGBTQ  Americans  by  denying  their  civil  rights,  which  includes
marriage  equality.    In  2009,  Senator  Huntley  voted  “No”  on  the  marriage
equality  bill,  which  would  have  guaranteed  same-‐sex  couples  equal  rights
and  protections  under  the  law.      We  will  not  allow  this  discrimination  any
longer!    Call  Senator  Huntley’s  offices  at  518-‐455-‐3531  or  718-‐523-‐3069
and  DEMAND  MARRIAGE  EQUALITY  in  NY  NOW!
