Herbalife has opened up a world of opportunity to Guillermo and Carola Luna. And Guillermo will tell you he appreciates it all the more because he started out with a far different set of circumstances. As a struggling medical student in Venezuela, Guillermo knew he wanted to help people, but he also needed to provide for himself. He would stand in line for as long as two hours, just to get a free lunch at the university, so he could stay in school and become a physicianto help people. As difficult as it was to get by, he found a way. When Guillermo was first introduced to Herbalife during summer break from medical school, it was the business opportunity that intrigued him. Eventually, his sponsor introduced him to someone who was to have a profound influence on his lifeChairmans Club member Nani Rancel. Hearing Nani talk about the business with such enthusiasm convinced Guillermo that this was an opportunity he couldnt miss. He borrowed the money to buy an IBP and jumped in. He immediately started to have doubts, though. I was afraid I couldnt sell, Guillermo recalls. A turning point came in 1993 when Guillermo scraped together enough money to go to Miami and see Mark Hughes speak. He realized the potential of Herbalife was beyond anything he ever imagined. Thats when Guillermo made a 100% commitment to Herbalife. I knew then that if they were willing to teach me, I was willing to learn. Carola came from a small town in northern Bolivia named Riberalta. Her family was very humble but plenty of love and dreams. Before finding Herbalife Carola got a MBA and she was looking for a good business when she found the Herbalife opportunity. A few years after advancing to Presidents Team, Guillermo met Carola at an Herbalife meeting. We are like a perfect combination, Guillermo says. Carola taught me to not work for the money, but to work for the people and peoples goals. Guillermo and Carola reside in Bolivia and enjoy the lifestyle that comes with their success. They are also deeply committed to helping others and they encourage others to do the same, whether its helping children in need or sponsoring a local sports team. We follow Mark Hughes example of giving back to people, says Guillermo.
