TUESDAY, AUGUST 2: NEXT SPEAKER We are honored to welcome District 5170 Governor Arley Marley III to our club for the Governors annual visit.

Thank you so much for reaching

out to the Joplin community as the recovery process begins. We have been forever changed by this event but we refuse to let the storm define us. As we look ahead, this area we love so much is looking to rebuild the 8,000 homes and businesses lost. Friends, families, and Rotarians are putting their lives back together piece by piece. We have been overwhelmed with support from Rotarians from all over the world asking how they can help. The absolute devastation caused by the tornado has brought much national media attention. It has allowed the nation to hear the amazing stories of courage and survival. However, we know that when the media attention leaves is when our work will truly begin. Rotarians will be an integral part of the rebuilding process. This work will be challenging and will take years to complete but we believe that our community will return even stronger. The Joplin Rotary Club and Daybreak Rotary have been working together to raise funds to assist families and organizations in their efforts to get their lives back to normal. Any financial assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Through an advisory council between our Joplin Rotary clubs, the funds will be distributed where there is a need and 100 percent will be used locally. If you would like to help, please send your tax-deductible donation to the following:

Your donation in any amount will be appreciated more than you may realize. We look forward to sharing with you the wonderful stories of redemption and service that will come from this storm. If you would prefer to make any other donation, please contact Logan Stanley at loganestanley@gmail.com or Jenny Hocker at jenny@doriscarlin.com for more details. Thank you so much for thinking of us in our time in need and for truly living Service above Self.

Yours in Rotary Service, Logan Stanley, Joplin Rotary President Jenny Hocker, Joplin Daybreak Rotary President (Next week we will share a personal letter from a friend of Dr. Sues who visited Joplin after the disaster.)

ROTARY CLUB OF CAMPBELL

JULY 19, 2011

PRESIDENTS CORNER
DR. SUSAN KLEAR

Our club welcomes its rst new member of the new Rotary year today. Welcome, Jennifer Carauddo!

This week I am looking forward to the

rst new member of our club for this year, 2011-2012, Jennifer Carauddo. We have had the pleasure of seeing her at our meetings for the last several weeks. She began her Rotary career with the San Ramon Club. She had her Chiropractic practice in that area. We are delighted that she moved her business to Campbell where she and her husband live. She no longer has to commute and gets to continue her interest in giving back to the community. Because of her interest in the outdoors, I have asked her to lead our monthly (or so) outdoor walking social activities. She might even come up with more adventures along the way. I think that she will make an excellent contribution to our club. She and her husband joined us at our debunking party and sat across the table from Mr. Shannon who was Matts high school vice principal (oh my!). The Campbell Board of Directors had their rst meeting last Thursday evening. It was a very lengthy meeting, yet we discussed a great many things. I want to make everything in our club transparent and so toward that end, I plan on sending out copies of the minutes to the membership. They are not yet completed and so I hope they can be sent in our next weeks newsletter. I also welcome people to attend our board meetings. David Keller and Jim Neal spoke to us

about the fundraisers that we have planned, the rst being Valley Flavors next month and the second being the Golf Tournament that had been held for many years with the Willow Glen Club. District Governor, Arley Marley, will be visiting our club next Tuesday August 2. The Campbell Board will be meeting with him at 11am to give him an overview of our club and what we are planning to do for this year. In previous years a gift exchange has been passed from one club to the next. This year Governor Marley wants to do something different. He plans to highlight one special project that is described to him from the previously visited club (Palo Alto for us; he sees the Pleasanton club after ours). This special project may be a local or international project and be a statement about our club. If we wish to seek partners or expand the project beyond our club, this would be a good way to advertise it. All of the reports will be published on the District website.
