Football clubs outside the riches of the Premier League are constantly finding it difficult to balance their books, particularly in these economic times and Tranmere Rovers are no different. When I was a player at the club we were pushing for a place in the Premier League backed by the generous support of the Chairman, Peter Johnson. Today, things are very different and it is no secret that he wishes to sell the club to someone who will have the best interests of Tranmere Rovers Football Club at heart. I have witnessed myself what can be positively achieved at Chester FC since their club was reformed under fan ownership. The Tranmere Rovers Trust idea of a community owned club is one that I totally support and I wish them well with what they are trying to achieve.

Over the last couple of months the Tranmere Rovers Trust has held positive discussions with Peter Johnson over bringing Tranmere Rovers Football Club into community ownership. Football clubs are constantly struggling to make ends meet in todays economic climate. Chairman Peter Johnson and the board of Directors have done a very good job in keeping the clubs head above water over the last few years. We believe there is an opportunity for a new beginning with Tranmere Rovers Football Club under community ownership where it will have the chance to thrive and prosper by

engaging all its fans behind a shared vision. There are huge benefits to fan-owned clubs against what we have seen at some clubs where their futures have been threatened. To have any chance of making this a reality the Trust is aiming to raise 300k by October 7. We are asking supporters to buy into a scheme which will give you a say in the future running and ambitions of this football club. Details of how you can get involved are in this brochure. Please support this appeal and lets create a fantastic future for this great club.

about the trust

/ what weve achieved
The Trust was formally brought into existence as an Industrial and Provident Society in May 2002. This is a similar model to the other 150+ supporters trusts around the UK that have been set up under a structure developed by Supporters Direct. A group of Tranmere supporters formed a working group a few months previously and developed a set of aims and an associated constitution. These aims remain the same today, although the ways in which the Trust has sought to achieve these aims has changed and developed over the years depending on the circumstances facing the Club, the Trust and the supporters. The timeline below shows some of the campaigns we have successfully completed:

---

2009

/ share purchase

The Trust became the 3rd largest shareholder in the club in 2009 when it purchased Fred Williams (former director) shares.

2010

/ les aid

The Trust raised over 12,000 in early 2010, allowing the club to bring in Andy Robinson on loan. Robinson helped to keep Rovers up, scoring a pivotal goal in a win against Millwall at Prenton Park.

2010/11

/ season ticket heritage packs

The Trust ran a campaign to encourage season ticket sales before the 201011 season. It offered supporters who bought packs a free shirt, scarf & bag in the colours of TRFC at the start of the 20th Century. Over 2,500 season tickets were sold and over 2,000 packs distributed. The scarves and shirts are now a common sight at Rovers games.
