Constructive Conservative U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter Leads on Debt Debate

Dover, NH Only one 2012 presidential candidate voted for all or any of the recent Republican debt legislation: constructive conservative U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter. Representative McCotter was a co-sponsor of the Cut, Cap and Balance Act, and he voted in support of Speaker of the House John Boehners second bill, with balanced budget language, and the Budget Control Act of 2011, which is now law. In a statement, McCotter called the Budget Control Act an imperfect but imperative first step toward restoring fiscal integrity to a federal government that spends too much, takes too much, and owes too much. McCotter was especially proactive and vocal on safeguarding against potentials for tax increases and military cuts during the super committee and prospective sequestration processes. He serves on the House Committee on Financial Services. On Concord News Radio WKXL 1450AM/103.9FM this week, New Hampshire Now host Chris Ryan asked McCotter about presumptive 2012 Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romneys role or non-role in the debt debate. Irrelevant, said McCotter, noting that the final act passed the U.S. House 269-161 (and later the U.S. Senate, 74-26), with the vast majority of support coming from Republicans. Former Governor Romney was, McCotter said, simply not a part of the process and not in the arena. McCotter will continue to lead the discussion on reducing and restructuring Big Government for the 21st Century while campaigning in Iowa August 4-5 and New Hampshire August 6-8, with a return to the Granite State already in the works for August 19-21.
