a. The angel in the house is a figurative term for a mother, or maid; a fictional character the author
created.
b. She is described as sympathetic, charming, unselfish, excelled in difficult arts of family life,
sacrificed herself daily, constituted, and pure.
c. The angel was a symbol for the suppression of free will in the author, since the Woolf had found it
hard to truly express herself.
d. Woolf must kill her because she can't write a review without having free will, and expressing the
truth about human relations, morality and sex but according to the angel of the house, women
must charm, ciliate and lie to succeed.

2. The writing profession for women at the time was the only profession that allowed women to think
freely, and the cheapness of writing paper.

3. The point she wanted to exercise were that women also had power (Persia = gold), and taste. Women
have the freedom to choose how to spend their money.
4. She claims that men have a very strong definition of what is a women in that women are submissive,
and not someone who would speak or act out of their character. She claims that men suppress the
ability to think creatively in women.

a) I believe what created such a successful oral quality of the piece were the effective use of images,
metaphors, and diction. It created great emphasis on important points. She also used anecdotes,
and persuasive language.
